2013 Tahoe 5.3 swapped with 2013 6.0
I am new to this forum and hoping someone will have some helpful tuner information. I have a 2013 Tahoe that experienced an AFM failure resulting in sever engine damage. To correct this I swapped in a complete 6.0 from a 2013 Silverado 2500, this got me the better engine while at the same time getting rid of the AFM system. Because the LS engines are very similar I though I was doing a pretty straight forward swap. I have put about 5000 miles on this new combination including towing. The truck runs but its definitely not optimal and has room for improvement. Tuning the engine computer has proved to be more difficult than I was expecting. I have had 2 different tuner companies attempt to program the computer with HP tuner software, but they cant seem to find 6.0 tunes in the file library, which seems odd as I believe this to be a pretty commonly swapped engine. So they have been trying to build custom tunes which have varying results. Currently it runs pretty well and is a daily driver, but below 2500rpm it acts like its breathing thru a straw and is slow to build RPM.
Does any one have experience or ideas related to this type of swap or any information that would be helpful to pass on to my HP tuner guy?
I contacted Holley to see if they had a product that would do the job and told me to use a Holley Diablo Predator 2 after I ordered it and tried to use it Tech support said their product would not do what I wanted it to. So I sent it back,

I agree with this 100%, find somebody that knows what there doing and have a good relation with them. This day and age it's hard to find somebody that will take the time to make it right. I knew I had the right guy when I was leaning against a 300k$ pro mod asking my guy about a tune on a 10k$ car...........

2013 5.3L is going to use an E38 ECM. 2013 6.0L is going to use a E78 ECM. There will not be a stock 2013 6.0L E78 file that you can flash to an E38 ECM. You will have to manually change the 5.3L calibration to 6.0L parameters. That is not hard to do for any competent tuner.

The ECM is the Tahoe's E38. The information about the E78 is the most helpful information I've gotten in the last year. I'm a mechanical and Diesel guy. The physical swap of the engine was in my wheel house. However I am in the dark and have no tools regarding the ECM or tuning, I have to seek the help of others.
When you mention 6.0 parameters, are these fuel maps and timing curves? The fuel maps I saw had hundreds of information blocks do these have to be updated individually or can whole maps be copied in, like from an E78 6.0 file? Are there transmission need adjustments I need to look for since 6L60E isn't typically mated to a 6.0 from a factory vehicle. As far as I can tell all the electrical sensors and hookups are identical between the 6.0 and the 5.3 except the plug for the AFM. There was a comment I found about the mass air sensor that even though they both use the same sensor the computer may be sending a high or low frequency signal thru it to operate the engine which may be different between the 5.3 and the 6.0. Thanks for your help.

You just build a new tune off the 5.3 tune and change everything for your new engine shouldnt need anything from the stock 6.0 tune. This is a very basic swap and tune, if someone is tuning for money they should easily be able to tune this. Your overthinking this way to much...find a local tuner and have it tuned.
