Default Which P59 PCM do I need?

Going in a 1999 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 for Flex Fuel compatibility. I believe they're not all the same, I need one with DBC provisioning as will as the IAT Programming, but don't know which vehicle to obtain it from. Can anyone give me an idea?

I was thinking it had to come from a Suburban? What years?

Hello,

I am not sure which vehicles these came out of but the hardware numbers should guide you: They made P59's with the IAC hardware (drive by cable) up to 2007. Hardware (not service) numbers: 12575502, 12570558, 12583659, and 12589161.

Noted, are they all Flex fuel compatible as well?

Any of these will work in my 99 Z28?

Those are just hardware numbers so you can find a pcm that has the IAC drivers on the circuit board. To get what you want with flex fuel and anything else will require that the pcm be programmed with a compatible operating system. The various problems involved in doing this swap are discussed in detail in a couple of different threads about adding flex fuel to that generation f body. It is far more involved than just plugging a p59 in place of your p01.

SERV. NO. – HWD NO. – These all have IAC drivers inside so they will work and this is just a partial list from what I've compiled over the years
12576106 – 12570558 – 2003 G-VAN, LM7, ALSO C-TRUCK LM7
12586243 – 12583659 – 2004 GTO LS1
12589462 – 12589161 – 2005 G-VAN, LQ4
12602801 – 12589161 – 2006 – 2007 Express, Drive by Wire but has IAC drivers inside as well

From my understanding through reading through this topic:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/pcm-diagn...-write-up.html

It appeared that the P59 out of a 03 - 05 Truck/Van paired with a Hummer OS is pretty much plug and play into the F-Body, with the exception that you have to add a 10k omh resistor to the tachometer and also tune out the O2 Sensor Heaters, and it appears that members have had problems with TCS/ASR not working.

It appears that the more complex setup would be to upload a Tahoe tune onto a 0411 PCM as there have been reports of airbag lights on and service vehicle lights on due to BCM and PCM incompatibility. My car however is a 99 and not 98 so I might not have this problem?

I am still not clear however as the thread never solidified which P59 people are using in their F-Bodies although it did go into what they had to modify to get it to work.

Would any of these accept the 2004 Hummer H2 603 OS ?

It wasn't fully clear to me in previous threads is what specific P59 PCM's people are using in F-Bodies as it seems these PCM's vary widely.

Now I understand the part you are worried about. The p59 is very simple compared to an e38 or e67. Any p59 OS can be flashed into any p59 computer without bricking it. The worst thing you could encounter is flashing a DBC os into a computer without IAC drivers, and the only bad thing that will happen is the IAC won't work. Of course actually tuning the software and making sure you have the right tables populated is another matter, as is plumbing and wiring in the actual flex sensor. And as far as I know, the most successful anyone has been with this had everything except ASR working. Also, there are some xdf files to convert a few of the non-flex OS numbers to flex fuel. I personally have the stock for my GTO 12587604 OS converted to run flex, and that way I did not have any bcm compatibility issues.

This is interesting, I did not know about the xdf files. My 99 is running the preliminary OS 9360361 and it appears that many people upgrade it to 12212156 found in 02 F-Bodies.

Where can I learn more about xdf files and can they be used on my 9360361 OS?

There is a program called Tunerpro that is free to use for gen 3 computers such as the p01 and p59. It uses definition files called xdf that map out what software addresses equate to what in the tune. Each OS number will need an xdf specific to that exact OS number. Most of these xdf files have been compiled by hobbyists and some are much more comprehensive than others. A good place to read up on this would be the pcmhacking forum. If you use Tunerpro to edit your file, you will need a program such as pcmhammer or lsdroid to load it into your pcm. Those are both free programs made by hobbyists. There is also a program called universal patcher that can do a lot of editing without the need for a specific xdf, but it is limited in what it can do.

edit-- It looks like there are also youtube tutorials explaining some of this. I should have thought of that first.

Reviving this back from the dead.

I bought a P59 PCM for my 1998 Pontiac Firebird LS3 Swap for flex fuel compatability. What year / make / model does the P59 PCM need to be configure for? A 2003 Truck / Van or a 1998 Pontiac Firebird 5.7?
