A battery that's on its way out will do that.

If it's old you might want to keep an eye on it.

Happy driving,

Z06s do that every time, maybe regular C5s too.

maybe your Z is going thru a little transformation

BadAss30th is right.. a battery that's on its last leg will do that. If you drive it more often and keep the batter charged, you may not notice it. Just keep an eye on things and if it starts to happen more frequently, be prepared to replace it. My OEM Delco battery died quickly after I started to notice the gauge sweeps after startups.

Something is weird. My 2000 WS6 does it every time. I thought it was just some GM flashy trick. Since day one to the present 30,000 miles It does it. I even went out and started my car to see if I was crazy after reading this post. IT SWEEPS ALL THE GUAGES....

Does your trip zero itself when the gauges sweep?

I had that with my 99 when I had about 22,000 miles on it. If the car had sat for a couple days the gauges would sweep the first time I started it and the trip would zero itself.

I hadn't modded the car yet and took it into the dealer and they had to work with GM for a new gauge console. Car was in the shop for over a week. It was covered by my warranty.

my 82' vette has been doing that since 82'. I like it. GM should of never stoped. if the car is at idle and i turn it right off and pull the key out the gauges stay where theyre at, unless i turn it back and leave the keys in the spot where the radio stays on then they fall to 0. Only thing i dont like about thoes gauges is that the stop at 85mph (I guess they thought yo *** wasnt going nowhere with 200hp) and GM stock notes says the car tops out at 125. I want my other 35mph.

There is also a TSB for this for a messed up flash prom in the gauge cluster. Usually when you get the gauge sweep thing you also get the trip odometer reset. GM can fix it by changing to a eeprom or something similiar.

Mine does this every once in a while, too. I haven't been using the trip meter, so I don't know if that's resetting or not. I'll check it if it happens again.

Mine used to do it. The car sat for a month waiting on my new heads. I put em on, and went to start car and the batt was dead. After jumping it off, everytime for a few days the gauges would sweep. It would even do it going down the road(WTF?). I figured I didnt tighten a ground or something, but after a week it just "went away."

Default The power of search!!!!!!!!!!

I suddenly had a problem with my car not starting after sitting outside unused for a week(getting ready to store for the winter). I went to move my car and it would not start. I had power but there was no click of the starter, just nothing when I turned the key.

I assumed the battery was low and charged it up. After a while I was able to get it to start. I moved the car in the garage and thought I needed a battery. I then let it sit for a few days and it started every time I tried.

I figured I needed a battery as I still had the original one (99").

The funny thing was that every other time I started it the tach and speedometer would peg and slowly go back down.

I thought, This must have happened to someone else before and searched and found this thread. I bought a new battery and the tach and speedo have been normal since!

Behold the powers of LS1 Tech and search!
