02 SS and Timing Issues.

02 SS and Timing Issues. IIRC there is an issue with the 02 years that the timing will jump around +/- what is programmed? Is this correct and what can be done about it? Is it the tuning program, OS, or PCM? Please help.

how much timing are you getting? Could be the IAT table pulling timing when it gets hot... it also takes time for the the PCM to learn between high and low octane tables
Not sure on what to adjust exactly as I've never heard of this problem (I'm running a 2002 OS right now in my 00 and timing is dead on... but I also don't have a low octane timing table)

Well, the timing at WOT will be on, higher or lower by around average of 3* when it "floats". On the edit forum I remember reading something about it but stuck like chuck on it now. Ugh..
This was going on when the car was only bolt on also, even after learing L/H tables and and in stable weather conditions. Irritating.

There are a lot of adder tables and such that mess the
spark around from the main table. If you are at a place
where the rate-of-change w/ airflow, RPM, temperatures,
etc. in the tables is large then the final spark value can
boogie around as driven by these inputs.
I saw on the little truck w/ the bad ECT sensor connection,
some really whacked spark behavior. Huge excursions from
that. If you have a consistent dithering problem then I
guess the thing to do is, log the spark and the index-quantities
for each of the adder-tables and see if you can pick out any
tracking behavior and instability in them.
