Default Rev Limiter

I'm not sure if this is in the right section, but I was wondering if you could adjust your rev limiter. What does the stock one cut you off at? What should you be shifting at during racing?

of course you can, stock is like 6200 or so... if you have somthing as simple as a Predator or HPP3 you can set you limiter.

On the stock cam I don't think you'd benefit from raising the limiter. Shift around 6000 on stock cam.

Well that all depends on your gearing. It has NOTHING to do with peak horsepower. A stock CAM stands to perform better at the track with the rev limiter raised than not - especially with Autos.

Shifting at 6500 gained me 0.3s over 6000. You do the math.

Yeh but realistically how much of that can a stock valvetrain take?

Stock? Well they will start to float and invoke their own soft limiter from 5200RPM on if they are dud. If they are good, they can go up to 6400RPM. I would put in valve springs if you want to rev. it any higher.

this is for based on my simultion runs. i have obtained dynos in different gears on a very near-stock car (lid) for a regular M6.
On a 3-4 shift you put down about 3% more applied power in between 60-120mph run if you shift at 6400rpm instead of 6000.
so yes, even on stock power it pays off to shift higher.

I sure wouldn't want to trust the stock springs at that rpm, but that's just me.

Thank you very much redhard. What did you use to change your rev limiter?

HPTuners is what I use for changes.
Dyno's I obtained from a friend who's nuts enough to dyno his car in multiple gears. The analysis is done by a custom program I wrote.
The rest is just common knowledge (gear ratios, formulas for speed as function of gear, tire, and gear ratios, etc)
The next step for my program would be to convert the work done to actual time passed. Next weekend maybe
