I really want to get HPTuners 2.0 with the EIO cable, but I am not in a hurry and I would really like the USB if it is not more money. I have a serial port on my computer, but USB is so much better. What should I do? Should I go ahead and buy now and upgrade? Or wait until 2.0 is released? Which would be cheaper? Thanks!

Serial works just fine for me......

If you buy it now, I'm pretty sure they will release 2.0 w/in your year of free major software upgrades.

On the downside, USB is a few orders of magnitude more succeptable to noise, and requires shorter cable runs than RS232.

The only real advantage to USB for existing PCM hardware is connectivity on newer laptops.

Will it cost to upgrade to USB if you buy now? Because isn't that a hardware upgrade that is included with the 6 months of free updates?

Yes, it is software upgrades, not hardware upgrades, that are free for 6 months (unless you purchase extra software upgrades). Bug issues are free always.

Don't think they answered that question yet. It's a good thing I did a last minute search on this. I was going to order my HPTuner today.

Anyone have a timetable? I'm about to buy, but I would prefer to have USB if I buy a new laptop in the future.

No dates yet, but as a guide i'd say more than one month and less than three (hard to know since we haven't started beta testing yet).

DB-9 connector, 9-pin female with a black plastic center, two
rows of pin holes and a metal shell. Often missing on newer,
especially lightweight notebooks.

I would not expect it until the end of May, probably the first of June.

Actually RS-232 is the protocol they use on the DB-9 connector.
