Default high idle

hey guys, i just finished tapping my brothers car, a 2001 ta, with h/c, and this is wat i saw:

current idle:1050-1175
temp: 180ish
tps: .0-.3
Iac: 188-190
set idle: 950

its an automatic car and it idles high. Sometimes on start up it will search for a idle around 600-1000 but go up to 1150-1200 on the tach.

me and my brother with the autotap are new to this so bare with us. Wat do ya'll think?

Don't drill the TB. Does it stay with a high idle after it's been warmed up? Is it tuned for the H/C?

can you see desired idle on auto tap? is it lower than actual idle. possibly a vacuum leak (TB gasket, egr prob, intake gasket, pcv hose or valve

Unusual. Normally iac drops to zero when you are getting too much air. Here it appears that the computer is adding air via the IAC.

exactly, the engine feels like its running rich but the pcm is compensating and running the idle high enough so it would stay on. Also, you have to give some gas for it to turn over and when we disconnected the TPS, is ran a bit better and didnt have to give gas to start.

any sense?

Have you done anything to or messed with the PCV or valve cover breather lines?

he replaced his valve covers and before, the pcv hoses that join together in the back weretorn apart, behind the manifold. It looked like heat destroyed the hoses back there.....

besides that, this could very well be a stupid vacuum leak and we're just chasing our own tails.....

now the actually, pvc valve, i havent gone near it bt how wold i know if its gone bad?

I had a high idle problem caused in part by air coming through the PCV line into the intake manifold. I discovered it by crimping the line and seeing my idle drop.

im gonna try that.....

i never thought about that. how much did you crip to make it work? did you use on of those metal o rings with the screw to decrease the size... (dude, im not sure wat its called..sorry!!!)

Log the strims and ltrims... with the car warmed up give it a rev to 2k and then let off the gas

If the ltrims jump up to like 10 -15+% then you might have a vacuum leak.

I have messed with my idle a lot and if the blade is close all the way and you had 100+ iac steps your idle should be right “the iac would have full control over your idle” but 100+ steps are not good.

I would also try to use the set screw and open the blade a little more… iac steps should go down and idle should stay the same until you open the blade to the point it no longer needs the iac to keep the idle. If you do get to this point close it a little more “ until your steps are around 30-40 in park.

I have found mine idles best at 40 iac in park and that puts me at about 15 to 10 iac steps in drive.
