Default LS1 Edit Communication Error Ideas?

WTF Does...
"Attempting to re-establish communication with PCM" mean? I only read the ls1 file from the PCM and it worked fine, I edit the ls1 file and go to upload it, and now I get this error... I have tried disconnecting the battery and restarting it, but same error every time. I am also unable to read from the PCM, but the car runs fine... any ideas?

Have you checked the cigarette lighter fuse? The cigarette lighter circuit supplies power to the ALDL Port.

Also, what versions of LS1 Edit and Windows are you using?

The only thing is, is that my LS1edit box lights up when I plug it in... It wouldn't do that with a blown fuse would it, unless I'm missing something. I'm running 1.5 and XP, have tried this on multiple laptops and same result. I have left it running for about 1/2 an hour to see if it'd reconnect, nothing... I saved the logcomm if any of you want to see it... Any other ideas?

Do the laptops have an AMD Chip? If so, you cannot use service pack 2 for window XP.

No, I have one laptop that has sp2 and is AMD, won't work with or without SP2, so I used a 2.8 intel'd laptop and now am using a 300mhz pentium laptop specifically for this. Still having no luck connecting to the PCM, really odd... I can't tune it, and I'm running 4.10 gears rather than the stock 3.42's so i'm putting miles on the odometer that shouldn't be there! =(

Try this at your own risk, but this works for me when I am having problems connecting...although I am still on something like v1.3 on a Windows 2000 laptop.

-->Open LS1Prog and select the file that you want to load under Program_PCM.
-->Plug in the LS1Edit cable into the ALDL port and turn on the key, wait 10 seconds.
-->select 'connect' under the action menu
-->hit 'ok' at the pop-up box
-->Now plug the serial cable into the laptop

This solves my loading problems everytime...sometimes my copy of LS1Edit works like normal, sometimes I have to do this. It's scary, but it works.

I'll give it a shot, see if it works. Were you getting the same error as I was?

Yep, for about 1/2 an hour straight!!!

I experimented with all kinds of different stuff and this was the only thing that I found that consistently worked for me...I am still trying to diagnose the root of the problem, but this is on a laptop that I always used exclusively for LS1Edit before and it always worked fine.

That's so strange, engineers couldn't help you figure out what the problem is? Funny thing is, it decided to do this and I hadn't even tried writing to it!

Nope, still nada for me. I don't know what to do, where to go, anything. This has got to be one of the most irritating things that has ever happened to me, LOL. Hopefully the manufacturers can help me out... =\

This is a stab in the dark, but did you ever try reinstalling Edit?

I've seen a suggestion to try connecting with AutoTap to see if the problem is limited to LS1Edit or is something more...

Yes, have reinstalled Ls1-edit, from v1.1 to 1.5 even. Connects Autotap perfectly, can test a/f ratios along with timing, idle, etc in efilive 7.1. It's definitely isolated with ls1-edit. Any other ideas?

I currently have the same problem that Edit won't connect. The car won't start either. Since it couldn't connect or even Auto Tap connect, we swapped a PCM from my son's Z-28 and it started right up. I'm going today to try and have my PCM reflashed and hopefully that will work. If I have to buy a new one I have to send back the cable firmware to Carputing and have the license for my car freed up.

Try running power from a source outside the car.I have to plug mine up to an outlet in garage.Computers are strange animals,if it isn't getting enough power from your cig outlet,it may freak out on you.Worth a shot.

I could never get Edit to work with XP. It wasn't until I got an older dedicated notebook (IBM Thinkpad), with a real serial port, running Windows 2000 Pro did it work okay, and its been flawless ever since. Once I ditched XP, got a computer just for running car programs (no going online), were my problems solved. This is what worked for me when I had the same problem. Do you have another operating system you can try like Windows '98 or 2000 Pro?

Really funny thing is, is that it WAS working, I could connect and read the flash off the car, but only did it once. I did read that with certain DC inverters, there have been problems. I do have one in my car, and had hooked it up briefly. If it had been putting 12v through the OBDII port, would I need to yank the PCM and have it repaired by carputing or what would I need to do? Thing is, not sure if pumping 12v through it would pop the pcm or just the part Im trying to write to, any of you know, because the car still starts and runs perfectly, just no LS1edit, EFILive still works flawlessly. =\
