is the fuel pump priming? if there's a problem w/the Pass Key (BCM) it will cause the fuel pump to not prime.. (it sends a ground to the fuel pump relay), then when you crank you'd be dumping all the pressure out... fuel pump isn't a fun job so make sure you're 100% sure that's it (try manually jumping the relay)

The Fuel pump should prime for a second or two when the key is first inserted to get fuel pressure up

It primes just maybe a second if that long, it sounds kind of ill not a nice hmmmm sound like normal. I have a friend who has a shop so the tank drop will be easier, that is also why I am asking dont want to if I dont have to.

It's a checksum error in the PCM. You need to write the PCM again or rewrite entire (depending what happened to get it this way). BTW, you will see this DTC on VCM scanner.

Either way our s/w is able to recover from this error.

So is it purchase time or have it flashed at the dealer or will my friends tech 2 flash it?
If I need to buy a VCM will any '98 computer work? And where is the best place to get one.

Chris I assume that you are with Hp tuners. If so then I was e-mailing you about two weeks ago about this.

yes, the binary file you emailed me is valid it writes to the 3 or 4, 98 PCMs i have no problems. From memory that was where we got to last time you emailed us at support. Certainly is a strange one.

I can flash and read the binary you emailed me to the four 1998 PCMs i have here on my bench without a problem. If you read the PCM and the binary file opens in the editor it is valid and the checksum is correct.

Please email me at support@hptuners.com if you have any more questions.

Cheers,

Chris...

******* ****, the exact same thing just happened to my buddies 98 with hptuners.

Loaded the file now it won't start. No voltage coming from the vcm and the fuel pump relay is clikcing. Tried resetting the computer, d/c the batter, switching fuses and nothing. It wont read or write the vcm,. Hptuners states no vcm found.

Any ideas?

Same thing happened to my buddies 98, and he had to swap the computer. With the new computer in it fired right up. I heard the 98's are a touchy computer to play with, meaning harder to recover.

Ok you guys scare me. What did you do to fry the pcm. I have hp tuners and I am getting ready to write my pcm with a new file. I am worried that this will happen to me. What precautions should I take to make sure this does not happen to me. DAMN 98's
