Default Purchase HPT now or wait for 2.0

For the past year I have borrowed my friends computer to tune my car. I really need my own copy however i've been holding out for 2.0. Reason being I wanted the USB box that has c6/gto support. I'm about to give up and purchase it now. Will the 2.0 box really be worth the wait(I wish I knew how long that'll be) or just go ahead and get it now.

I have a feeling with them releasing 1.7, 2.0 is a while away. I just bit the bullet and bought it already...I don't really care about the USB support, and will get the 2.0 software for free when it comes out.

Why not buy it now, the upgrade to 2.0 will be free when it comes out, and you will have the chance to get your feet wet.

BTW, I met Ken from HPTuners the other day, real nice guy and very knowledgeable.

Cheers,

The hardware won't be though If he really needs the hardware, and doesn't want to pay for that upgrade, it'd be best to wait. Since I didn't require the USB support, I went ahead and bought it.

Good point. I don't need USB hardware either.

Sorry to hear that Rob, that you met Ken. j/k! Ken is a great guy and extremely helpful. He is the kind of person that you need to keep as a friend, not because of his connections, but because he is always willing to help people out.

To answer the original question ... just get it now, unless you need to tune LS2/7. The USB cable/adapter won't hinder your tuning abilities ... it is the icing on the cake. When it comes out, you will be upgraded to V2.0.

FWIW.. this is the USB to Serial I've been using for the past year... I had issues at first (poorly written drivers) but since they released the latest drivers in November 04 it's been great...

If you are waiting for our LS2 support then you will need our USB interface as our current interface does not support LS2 vehicles. Our USB interface which is in use currently in the hands of our testers is also supplied with a fully functional copy of VCM Suite 2.0. VCM Suite 2.0 is not a ways away.

VCM Suite 1.7 was a minor release that contained a minor fixes and a few enhancements that were implemented easily due to the innovations VCM Suite 2.0 brought us internally.

If you order now, you will receive VCM Suite 2.0 for free. The USB/LS2 interface upgrade will not be free.

Hope this helps.

The guys at HPTuners are obviously dedicated to treating customers fairly, more fairly than any other software company I am aware of. It takes time to learn to use VCM Suite effectively but the more you learn about it, the more you learn about your engine. Don't delay, you won't be sorry.

I went ahead and ordered. When we get a c6 I'll just bite the bullet and get a 3rd vehcile and upgrade the cable. Hopefully it'll be fair pricing.

I've alreay tuned a few cars, just have not purchased my own copy, IE: no money. lol. I'm glad they decided not to vin lock like ls1 edit. Being able to test it out on my car was the very reason i'm buying it.

Goes to show that a little feature like that, probably genearates more sales than if they actually did lock it. Good to hear about 2.0!
