Default 02 Sensor readings question.

This one should be simple? Does a colder 02 sensor (ie. one that has been placed further back in the exhaust system as a result of longtube headers being installed) read leaner or richer as compared to a stock location sensor?

Or... will it just take longer to heat up and still read accurately (a relative term in regards to narrowband 02's)?

Thanks guys!

doesn't do either, but It may not stay hot enough to keep the O2's functioning it they are too far back. That is double true at Idle.

So I guess my next question to that is, do longtube headers move them far enough back to make the useless? I don't think so or else it'd be nearly impossible for the PCM to figure out what the car is doing on the fly and it would pretty much run like you had 2 bad front O2's...

Hmmm. More thoughts? Ideas?

I've heard of very very few cases of people that have had to use header wrap to keep the O2's up to temp but that is only if your running a very very big cam with major overlap. So unless your running a monster **** of a cam it isn't something you need to worry about. You will however need extentions to reach the sensor location on the LT headers.

Instead of buying 02 extensions you might want to think about buying the rear vette 02 sensors as the heating element is better and will help keep them functioning at idle better.

Thats what I did and would recomend it if your current O2's have a bunch of miles on them. I could tell the difference by watching my logs the new ones were just all around better than the stockers I had after 70K miles.

If your gonna replace the stock rear O2's, try the Bosch #13111. The same as the Corvettes.

A sleeping O2 looks like a lean O2. This gives
you bogus + LTFTs at lower airflows. The heat
at the sensor depends on multiple factors, the
plumbing geometry and the exhaust gas flow,
temp, and the outside temp / road airflow too.

The O2s will heat up and cool down, go in and
out of hibernation. This will drag the trims around
and give you a driving history effect, car runs
well and then runs poorly, etc.

O2s barely warm enough to work, will be slow
responding and the short term trimming effect of
this aggravates idle surge / wandering.

Talking about lazy 02's my bank one switches rather fast back and forth but it seems bank stays constant for a couple of seconds thens switches. Lets say it stays at 700 for about 2 seconds then takes a switch and gets stuck at 700 is this a bad sensor or is it normal?

Oh yea they have 70000 miles on them

This is something that I think I'm going to do! For the etest cops up here we need to have every single part installed on the car so I'm going to take my front 02's and the extensions I bought for them and install bungs in the Y behind the cats, then hook up the front 02's in the rear there (just for looks).

I'll throw the Vette 02's in the headers and hopefully I'll be a little closer to seeing what my 02's are really reading. Doing PE adjustments and watching your 02's move only slightly makes me nervous the lower I go!
