what needs to be done to use a 2002 pcm in a 2000 car ...
can it just be flashed with a 2000 pcm file me and my buddy wanted to buy hp tuners but his car is an 00 and mine is an 02 so we were thinking to just change out his pcm instead of buying 2 different years of hp tuners will this work?

with hp tuners you get 2 vehicle types...
so you could get 2000/2002 camaro/bird bidy cars...
you can also flash any os onto those computers as long as you have purchased that vehicle type...
I myself have 2000/2001 camaros/birds...
and I just flashed my 2000 computer with a 2001 os so that I could have some of the 2001 features/improvements.....

and switching from a 2000 to a 2001 has made it easier to tune as well

but would buying a 2002 pcm for hp tuners that is only for a 2000 car allow you to use hp tuners on that car or does hp tuners check the year through some other route

as long as you purchase support for the year of teh vehicle you can flash over what is in it...
meaning if you purchase 2000/2002...
then teh computer must have the OS from that year on it...
so you could flash a 2002 to a 2000 or flash a 2000 to a 2002...but you could not flash anything to a '98 '99' or '01

however..if somebody else took another year (lest say a 99....) and turned it into a 2000 for you...then you could write over it...

Its all opeating system dependent basically...(as far as I can tell)

the boxes(pcm) are all physically the same as far as I can tell as well....
so if you had a bmw computer that had a 2000 or 2002 camaro/bird OS on it...you could use it(I think...)
(wish somebody from HP Tuners would chime in to verify this for sure)
