Default question for those adding part throttle timing?

how do yo guys go about adding timing to part throttle and what ranges do you do it? i had a little more timing in but in some cells when i free reved i think it was causing kr or some burst knock maybe. some guys say the car runs better with more part throttle timing so im just interested in the range that is chagned. like 1400-3000 up to .44 g/sec, some range like that is what im looking for, and how you did it

just drive around in total 'tool around town' mode, and see which cells you hit, and that's your 'part throttle' area. yea, it's simple like that

Be careful adding too much, PT still has different loads which can lead to problems. How I did mine was to PT up a semi steep grade, making sure I was not in WOT cell, then added some timing, repeated as necessary. That ensures that when there is little load the increased timing wont matter, but wont knock at higher load still good.

I added 3-5 degrees below 2400 rpm in those cells that are at 13 or 15. Pretty much brought them up to 18-20 in all of the lower cells. Not real scientific, just highlighted a verticle row and added to the cells that needed it so none are below 18. Results: Made my car totally drivable with a 233/239 cam. Before, it was a slug below 3000, now it feels like a normal car with a cam. Scan --- 0 knock with 11.5:1 on Super unleaded.. I lowered the VE in that same area a few weeks ago, it helped but the timing finished the job.

ok cool, i redid the whole ve table by hand to get it smoother and take out all the dip while keeping the other areas plus or minus a half. if you guys can, can you post up a screen shot of your table, number and 3d? ill put mine tonight, maybe it will help us all out who are trying to mess with it more

Is it just me or did anyone else have KR with the stock table in closed-loop operation in and around the 1600-4000RPM/.32-.60kpa range? I don't know if I could get away with adding timing in. Is it because I still have the stock cam?

I just pasted in a C5 (not Z06) Vette spark map and went from there. It much hotter in the midrange area than the F-Body one, really crispened up the throttle response.

See if you can find a C5 bin that your tuning software can read, if you're using LS1-Edit let me know and I'll send you the ones I use.

I added a crapload of timing where I was getting no-load chugging 800-1200 rpm. I set it to 35* for 800-1200 rpm/0.8-.16 g/cyl and it helped. That's the only part throttle stuff i've done so far.

PMack, aren't you getting bad surging? i usually fix surges by removing timing from thes areas, so i'm confused how it works for you.

I can post a screen shot tomorrow (tunes at work with my laptop there!). How do I post a SS anyway?

As far as the KR question, have you logged it with FTC to see what cell your in?

I have no surging. It's just when driving around a parking lot trying to hold my speed at 7mph at 1000 rpm in first sometimes it'll start chugging. If i give it gas or let off the gas at all it'll go away.

I got that issue as well, but in my A4. Slight brake pressure and she's fine, let it go but let the foot off and she'll buck a little.
