Is tuning or deleting codes something I would have the option to do myself or would I have to take my car 200 miles to a tuner? Not too big on the mail order tunes.

crane and vinci worked to gether to develop the tuner. there are some differences between them. you can get the vinci tuner through www.vincihighperformance.com

mrr23, you seem to know your stuff about the Vinci so I was wondering if you could answer something for me. Ive read through all the threads from my "search" and found everything I needed to know execpt this: I plan on !EGR and !AIR. Will the Vinci tuner be able to delete these codes, and if not how would I be able to get them deleted ?

it does not delete codes. it widens the parameters so as it should not set the SES light off. i have a friend of mine that had not cat and removed his EGR and AIR. he got no codes after installing the vinci tuner.

the only way actually delete the codes is with a full on editing software like hptuners, ls1edit, efilive.

Right on. Probably give it a little more thought and then hopefully have one here in the next month or so. Thanks for the input, appreciate it.

the hypertech i bought mine just for a 3.73 swap a few people on here said the tune sucks i have to disagree my car is also a 98 ta a4 the rfg tune is alittle agressive (it detonates on anything lower than 93 octane you can control the fans, gears listed are 273 323 342 373 and 410 4 levels of added shift firmness speedo and tire recalibrate a setting for regular gas(not used by me)speed limeter rpm limiter for only 350$ shipped (jegs)i wouldnt call it crap at all not been to dyno yet but when i do ill post charts.hypertech has charts on there site showing 26whp and 54ftlbs of tourqe my engine is stock internaly if you have alot of engine mods the crane is probably better or a custom tune on a daily driven stock engine i recomend the pp3 it also reads and clears dtc,s if you fix problem

54ft/lbs? Is that on a diesel?
There is no way in hell any tune is gonna unlock more than 20-25 ft/lbs on a stock/near stock LS1.

The vinci tuner is good about not throwing codes after !EGR. My plug for the EGR pump is dangling unplugged and no SES. Also, the rear 02s are dangling as well, no SES. Im only assuming its the same way for !AIR. Theres a lot of stuff in this programmer that they dont tell you about. The customer service is awesome too!

I remember hypertechs graphs from my old LT1 days. They're not advertising peak gains. But you know, the hypertech is a bunch of BS. I had the optimal hypertech car for their "tune" : 96Z M6 4.10 CAI, Borla, shorties, pullies, elec. water pump, etc.

Yeah, i got a better performance boost by turning off the A/C then i ever did with a Hypertech.

The dyno charts on Hypertech's web site do not show anything for the 98 Trans Am but there is one for the 99s. The 30025 shows a remarkable +26 hp at 5000 rpm and +54 lb ft of torque at 1250 rpm. Their 83006 model shows the same peaks. I believe 1999 was the year GM went with the 26 from 28 lb injectors. If I read these charts correctly and believe them; the comparison is with lower octane gas vs the high octane with the hypertech power tune.

Do what I did with my 2001 Z28. I bought 3 pulls on the dyno. The first with tune installed, the 2nd with it removed. The hypertech tune was doing nothing for me. However - the techs felt that my 13:5 to 14:1 a/f ratio was pushing the ecu into the low octane tables and my fuel and timing were being pulled from the matrix where the hypertech tune did not exist. A pro tuner did tell me that (even) the hypertech should have added some numbers so I believed him and the techs at the dyno shop. So my advice on the dyno pulls is to pay for the a/f testing as well.

Honestly, as in actual gains at the wheels on a dyno, about 15rwhp, in addition to all of it's other features.

Seriously, if anyone believes you can get those kinds of results I have a bridge for sale....
Can you even load a dyno that low and see a gain like that? Was that at the flywheel? Still too high for flywheel even...

The Predator allows you to delete all codes related to removing cats, as well as !AIR and !EGR.

I have a Predator and have for almost 3 years now. It can do anything the Vinci and Crane can and more.

Plus their tech guys read some of the posts on this site and are more than willing to help people out when they have questions. When was the last time you saw the actual Vinci/Crane or Hypertech people on here helping their customers out with questions or problems proactively?

If you have the old version of the Predators they were a little limited, Diablo came out with a new Firmware update that is free of charge to the original owner. The new firmware allows the Predator to do as much if not more than any of the other handhelds out there and if you have a custom tune done at a Diablo tuning facility you have the ability to adjust that tune as well.

Here are some of the things the Predator can do:

U7198 Stock Vehicle Tunes:

Performance Tune: Designed to add power and torque using premium fuel.

87 Octane Tune: (Trucks Only) Designed to add power and torque using low to mid grade fuel.

Factory Tune: Designed for users who wants to adjust parameters using the factory tune.

U7198 Specific Features:

Timing Table 1000-1800rpm (+/- 20%)

Timing Table 2000-4000rpm (+/- 20%)

Timing Table 4000-7000rpm (+/- 20%)

Fuel Table 2000-4000rpm (+/- 20%)

Fuel Table 4000-7000rpm (+/- 20%)

Idle (+ 500rpm / -300rpm)

Speed Limiters (Trucks Only)

Rev Limiters

RPM Shift Points

MPH Up and Downshifts

Shift Timing

Shift Pressure

Cooling Fan ON and OFF temperatures

Re-Calibrate Speedometer for Gear and Tire Size Changes

Torque Management abuse mode time limit ON/OFF

% torque reduction vs. RPM ON/OFF

Upshift torque reduction (all gears) ON/OFF

Adjust for different injector size

Disable P0420 and P0430 codes

Adjust COT enable temperature

Misfire Low rev

Misfire Low cyl

Misfire idle cyl

Enable/disable MPH, set high to disable

Disable P-codes: 0400,0401,0402, 0405, 1404 and 1409

Disable P-codes: 0410, 0412 and 0418

Disable P-codes: 0137, 0138, 0140, 0141, 0157, 0158, 0160 and 0161

All standard DiabloSport Predator features
