a 160* thermostat doesn't mean the car runs 160* .... it just opens up sooner to let coolant intot he engine....

as far as i'm concerned... the only reason to not use a 160* thermostat is if you're in a place where it gets cold and you have to drive the car (takes longer to get heat) ..... but the simple fix for that is..... swap thermostats for winter hehe (that's what I'm doing w/my GTP)

i know with my hypertech in my 95 lt1 they said i all but HAD to run a 160, i imagine the stat you run NEEDS to coincide with your tuning, but i cant say for sure

ive heard from a tuner modder guy says that ls1 is good motor but they have to
run hot or they dont seal good, lot of blow by like a smoke stack if not hot. he told me
run 195 or 180 with the fans on top of that.

I've heard mileage takes a hit as well with the 160.

I run a 160 in my GTP too... going to be a cold winter heh
Same here.... 160 stat and I see 180-190 temps, and yes I have the fans coming on earlier. As far as oil quality goes, mine has never went past 3000 miles before I changed it....

If you are running big compression (my Static/DCR are 11.05/8.3), and higher timing you are going to want those temps to control knock.

FYI: I still get 29-30.5mpg on the interstate
