Default USB to 9-pin adapter

Can anyone tell me if they have had any luck with a USB to 9-pin adapter? More specifically, if anyone has had any luck with an adapter using HPTuners? I find it frustrating that they still use the 9-pin configuration for HPTuners....new computers do not even come standard with 9-pins anymore.

keyspan is the one that is recommended

I've used an adapter for my HPT since day one (I have an actual serial port, but I use that for my LM-1) (I don't use keyspan, I use a real cheap adapter, but not sure how it will work for everyone.. has worked fine for me for the past year)

Stay away from Belkin and Radioshack adapters... Keyspan is the one i'd get

i would ONLY reccomend the keyspan adapter... i tried a couple other ones and had problems.

interestingly enough, i write software for handheld computers for a living, and we were having this horrific problem with data transfer between the PC and the handheld.. and we were using other name brand serial to USB adapters..

after my HPtuners adapter problem, and seeing how the keyspan adapter fixed it, i tried it at work.. solved everything... they're now the ONLY adapter we use at work too. lol.

I have been using an adapter from sewell. I've never had any problems whatsoever with it and I've used it on hptuners from day 1. It was only like $17 or so too!

I have been using one made by ATEN
bought it at a micro-center
I think I have also seen them at comp-usa
I bought mine cause I needed it for controlling Audio Loudspeaker Processors and Control Systems...just happens to work great with my HP Tuners and my LC1

I have been using a cheapo IOGear one I got at
Wal-Mart. Seems to have no problems on my
pokey 266MHz Thinkpad "tuning beater" laptop.

I've been using one for a year or two that doesn't even have a brand name listed on it. Never had a problem with it. I paid around $20 at a local computer joint called the Computer Deli.

Only problem I've ever had with it was trying to find drivers online for a buddy's computer. A trip back home so I could pick up the drivers CD fixed that problem pretty easily.

What's wrong with the Radio Shack adapter? I've been using one for about a year with no problems.

Alright. I have come to the conclusion after reading this thread that it doesent really matter the type of adapter, because it is obvious that many different types work.

But here is my next question: did you guys install any drivers to make the adapter work? Im assuming these adapters come with software?

Using WinXp Pro, still had to install drivers, were included with the unit.

I have the one from Radio Shack. Use it on my laptop. It gives me a lot of connection problems. Have to reload the driver from time to time. Other times I'll loose communication with I'm logging or just looking at the PIDs. It will disconnect for no apparent reason. Have to reboot when this happens. B&B electronics where I bought my AutoTap says they have one that they will guarantee to stay connected, but it costs $79.
