Default no 2/3 bar support

Without 2/3 bar map feedback how do you make sure the A/F is good under different accel / shifting conditions?

Default LS1edit?

If that's the case (EFILive vs. HPtuners) what about LS1edit, for a 98 is there any advantage of either of these?

Personally I would go with hptuners & the enhanced version with the analog inputs for a wideband & pick yourself up an LC1 wideband from innovate motorsports and you'll be set. I wouldnt even consider ls1edit though.

ls1edit has taken the lives of many 98 pcm's. dont do it. go with one of the better tuners out there.

Toss the 98 PCM, buy a later model PCM to suit with wiring harness and upgrade the OS to the latest supported version by the PCM. Then you can use HPTuners 3-bar.

unless you buy a 2 bar or 3 bar map....then you can still do an SD tune...just your resolution get halfed for the 2 bar sensor and cut by 1/3rd for the 3 bar stuff

meaning that with a 2 bar sensor on a 1 bar OS 50kpa now mans 100 and 100kpa now means 200

several other tables get kind of screwy...but its not hard to do
do a search on here for 2 bar and you'll find the info
there were some pretty recent posts that had some info If I remeber correctly

it also takes a little more care setting up the PE table

but you can do a 2 bar boost aplication in SD on a 98 if you want to

IIRC, EFILive will be offering a 2/3 OS for '98's. Don't take my word for it though. Take a look at www.efilive.com

i have heard that it is impossible. the 98 pcm will not support it. the only way to do it is the way sound was saying. rick@synergy has completed one like this. he said it wasnt to hard.

Its not that its impossible...it just requires a complete rewrite of the OS to mak it happen...and that is what is nearly impossible...companies like HPT and EFI really just dont have the manpower to do this like GM did for the car in the first place...
its not that it wont happen eventually...its just a matter of how long its going to take to get there

Or just use a maf that won't max out at your boost level.

a 99 pcm in a 98 car, is a royal pain, requiring changes from the fuel tank evap system. cluster, and harness.

The issue with the 98 PCM's and 2bar are more related to the delivery and identification of the newly installed 2bar OS, the 98's make this extremely, extremely painful compared to the 99+. In terms of the code it self it's not all that different to the 99+.

Default options...

Thank you for all the info...The 2 bar half resolution thing makes sense, but I have a couple questions...

1) Has anyone converted a 98 to 99+ ECU, what is required (engine sensors, complete rewire, ???), this option looks attractive if possible, is there a kit?

2) Has anyone used either of the programs EFILive or HPTuners (from what I have read LS1edit is a mistake?) to set up a 2 bar system on a 98?

3) Is there a MAF that I can plug in to support 1000HP, if so would this help, can I tune based purely on air flow / air temp / vacuum (makes sense in theory I guess)?

If there where your options, which would you take?

Seriously, I would start doing research on a 99+ pcm swap. This offers way more options and is not really to difficult I don't believe. I have a 3 bar with EFIlive and LOVE it. It is pretty close to a closed loop 3 bar setup they offer!!

People have done the 98 - 99 pcm swap, not sure who but a search would answer that. for your goal of 1000+ HP, I would imagine this won't be on the street much (Godspeed to you if it is ), you may want to consider a stand-alone engine management system.

On the forced induction 98's we've done, we install a 99+ PCM and harness, and we have an adapter harness that connects the 99+ engine harness to the 98 vehicle harness, enabling the gauges to work.

We also use HP Tuners 2/3 bar OS.
