Default LS1 edit and HPP3 questions

if i have LS1 edit tunning done to my car, excluding fan settings and thermo temps and rear gear settings, can i still use the HPP3 to set those paramaters? i want to set my fans and thermo @ 160 (w/ a 160 thermo) for road racing, but be able to set it back when time for the sniffer test (needs all the help it can get with the T1). and i never know when i'm gonna change rear gears, so i would like to be able to set those myself. so will the HPP3 work on those if LS1 edit leaves them alone? also, will LS1 edit tunning help a car pass the sniffer if it has a cam (T1). i have FLP's w/ cats, T1, LS6 intake (SLP w/ EGR), and i need to get tested this month. i want to have custom tunning done (@ MTI) to get rid of P0300, rear O2's, fuel and timming adjustments. also, if i have the EGR and Air Pump stuff deleted and removed (in computer and on the motor) and it passes the sniffer, will it still fail due to the visual? will the air pump removal make it impossible to pass the sniffer?

Well, Why not get LS1 Edit single user version and then make any changes you want any time? Will MTI tune your car with your version of LS1 Edit? Just a thought, but I belive you will still come out cheaper than buying a Hypertech and the tuning.

Never hurts to ask.

i already have a HPP3 (and have for 3 years now and only paid $150 for it). buying the LS1 edit involves more than just the $550 cost of the unit/cable/software, i also need a laptop to run it. i was thinking the same thing about having MTI do the tunning with my software. what do they charge for a tune?

Glenn,
Ls1-edit will not stop you from using the HPP, but be careful how you use it, or you could loose you tuning. Always go back to stock with the HPP before a tuning ession, and start the HPP fresh after the tune.wise it can erase the tune.

that what i was thinking, always unload the HPP3 before you use LS1 edit, then reinstall the HPP3 stuff. i am seriously thinking i will just buy my own LS1 Edit and have it tuned by a shop. sell my HPP3 and make the changes that way.

IMHO,
if you are into this to have a well performing car, you need a laptop, or a pocket p/c or PDA to use a PCM scanner, no matter if someone else or you are doing the tuning for the scanner is your eyes into the PCM and informs you exactly how all the functions are meshed and how good or bad the PCM calibration is.
No different then older cars where you had a timing light, dwell meter, etc.

By having a laptop ( and you can find a ton of them used at a cheap cost found on internet) you now have the PCM scanner and programmer on same P/C reducing the laptop cost over the two tools.

So by going with LS1-edit you no longer need that hhp3, dependent on a tuner shop, sell it and use that money towards cost of laptop and do all the things hpps did and a lot more.

This way it's you controling what the PCM parameters are set to rather assuming what a tuner might have or have not done.

I have no doubt that LS1Edit can help pass emission testing IF you know what you are doing and what to change.

I agree with Team ZR-1 about the laptop. If you are serious about this stuff, you got to have a laptop to run a scanner so that you know what your engine is doing. You should be able to buy a used laptop for around $300 or borrow one.

Think long term, you are ever going to make other changes to the engine. If you do, then are you going back and get another custom tune and pay more bucks to someone else.

still wanna know what effect on emissions removing the egr will have on a 98 w/ a T1 spec cam. also, the same on the airpump and related tubing. i am working on obtaining LS1 edit, so codes will not be a problem. but will the removal of those items prevent the car from being able to be tuned to pass the sniffer? someone has to have tried this. i'll be the willing to donate my car and LS1 edit to any tuner who will donate the dyno time to see how this works!
