Re: Dead HPP3
I've had about 10 HPP3 units for my car. All of them have worked, though they didn't all work correctly.
Have you checked your fuses? If the ALDL port isn't working on your car, then the HPP3 can't work. I believe the port is on the same fuse as the cigarette lighter.

Re: Dead HPP3
Mine has a battery provision under the power port sticker. It is just to the right of the connector that is there. If I ever get offf mof my fat *** and get a battery I'll let you know if it works.

Using a 9V battery with an OBDII connectored HPP is a waste of a battery. Unless you have a blown fuse in the OBDII port, Pin 16 is the source of 12V for the HPP - that's where it gets its power.
I would fix a blown OBDII port fuse before programming with a 9V battery in the HPP.

Re: Dead HPP3
No one is suggesting programming with the 9v battery. I am suggesting that it might be useful to verify that the unit can be turned on independent of the cable or functioning DLC.

Re: Dead HPP3
Open up the back and put in a 9v battery. The unit should then turn on without being connected to the car. (It'll hang trying to communicate with the car and you'll need to pull the battery to shut it off.) If it's just a bad cable, you might be able to borrow one locally. If it's a dud programmer...

Re: Dead HPP3
Thanks, Camaroholic,
It's obvious the port carries voltage. As TT said, it's a quick check for the HPP3.
Could be usefull.
We appreciate your wisdom, it's obvious you have more than a passing acquaintance with this .
