Default Need some PCM advice - Getting MTI tuning.

Going to send in a spare PCM for my '01 SS to get some tuning done on it.

Things so far on my list :

- Delete P0300 Code
- Raise idle
- Bump up timing
- Reduce Torque Management
- Adjust shift points
- Fan Settings

Mods are in the sig.

Is there ANYTHING else I should have Jayson do on my mostly stock car?

Thanks! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

IMO I would autotap the car first, and log like 3-4 runs on it.

I would log when it shifts, and timing at WOT.

He might find the data useful, then again I would guess he has a general list of changes that he has used on many cars.

Delete AIR (or code P0401)
Delete Torque Management
Delete Rear O2 sensors
Delete EGR codes
Increase timing to 30 degrees
Raise minimum speed to upshift to 4th gear to 40 mph
Raise minimum speed for converter lock-up in 4th gear to 40 mph
Raise minimum speed for converter lock-up in 3rd gear to 35 mph
Reduce amount of throttle input required for converter unlock in 3rd and 4th gears at speeds below 60 mph
program for a faster downshift (less TPS required)
raise upshift speeds in 2nd gear by 3 - 5 mph at 18% TPS and less.

I asked him if he needed any Dyno runs or ATAP logs and he said no, PSJ. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Ragtop, couple of questions.

Delete AIR (or code P0401) - What is the purpose for that? Is this a common problem?

Delete Torque Management - Getting that taken care of.

Delete Rear O2 sensors - Are the used for emissions?

Delete EGR codes - I have an '01 so I don't think I have an EGR?

Increase timing to 30 degrees - Is that too much on an '01? I was thinking more along the lines of 28*. Just asking.

Raise minimum speed to upshift to 4th gear to 40 mph - Great idea. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Raise minimum speed for converter lock-up in 4th gear to 40 mph - Another great idea. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Raise minimum speed for converter lock-up in 3rd gear to 35 mph - And again.. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Reduce amount of throttle input required for converter unlock in 3rd and 4th gears at speeds
below 60 mph - This wouldn't cause to much locking/unlocking would it?

program for a faster downshift (less TPS required) - Advantage of this?

raise upshift speeds in 2nd gear by 3 - 5 mph at 18% TPS and less. - I can still use my HPP for shift points. Is that what you're referring to here or am I lost? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

Thanks for the input guys. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Sorry, didn't see that you had an 01, so skip the egr and 28* is probably fine. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Embarrassed]" src="gr_emb.gif" />

Delete AIR can come in handy with headers.
Delete Rear O2s if you run an ORP with headers.

</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">These are driving preferences. By 37% TPS, I like the converter unlocked in 3rd and want the car to downshift from 4th to 3rd because I want the car to start moving quickly. You may prefer 43% or 50%. When I ATAP'ed I discovered that I rarely go above 25% TPS on level ground and even going up hills use 33% or less. Your car may respond differently do to differences in gears, converters, and cams.

</font><blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><hr /><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif"> raise upshift speeds in 2nd gear by 3 - 5 mph at 18% TPS and less. - I can still use my HPP for shift points. This refers to part throttle shifts at low acceleration rates. By keeping the car in 2nd gear for a few extra mph, the car will feel a little less sluggish and reduce looseness a bit.

Looking over the list, I realize that you might want to raise 3rd gear lock-up to 40 mph also. This will keep it from trying to lock up just before the upshift to 4th. Alternatively you could use a 3 - 4 upshift of 35mph.

Shooter,

After you send it to MTI I would get rid of the HPP3. I send my PCM to MTI to raise the idle and delete the P0300 code, NO TUNING was performed by MTI. When I got it back I used the HPP3 for tuning, rev limiter, shift points and fan temps. Everything was fine. I went to Speed Inc on 4/6 to have BV Perf dyno tune the car. I removed all the HPP3 and the car would not idle. It was surging like I never raised the idle rpm. Brain pulled the PCM info and it stated a 850 rpm in drive. Once Brian put his tuning in, the PCM was back to normal and the idle was back to 850 and no surging.

I guess my point is, be careful when using the HPP3 ontop of LS1-Edit. I had problems but then again I used the HPP3 tuning and you won't so that maybe the issue.

Good Luck,

Tom

I wouldn't set timing to a static value - you are going to be able to use more timing near peak hp, and need less at your peak torque.

You have a good list of things to modify. But honestly why pay anyone for custom tuning if you are going to specify exactly what's get done. You might as well buy LS1 Edit yourself and have the option to change and tweak it. If no dyno's/logs are going to be used then it is probably just a canned program - there is only so much *anyone* can do without feedback.

I agree with what EVERYONE has said. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Ragtop - Thanks SO much for the info and advice. I'll talk to Jayson about all things mentioned. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Tom - Just using the HPP for shift points from here on out. Nothing else. Didn't pay that much for it so not too worried about it. I appreciate the input though. You've been extremely helpful through all this. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Chris - I completely agree but this SES and P0300 code are killing me. I'm also just too low on idle and there's no LS1Edit for '01s yet. When it comes out, I'll probably go that route. My goal is a very streetable, nice performing car. Nothing radical and I'm not sure what the future holds in terms of mods. Just wanna make sure everything I have now is working at peak. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Guys, can't thank you enough for all the input. You rock! <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

Chris:

That is at higher rpms at WOT; Jayson knows where to set it for that at just part of the wot table.
