Why LTFT -6 to -2 ?

Why LTFT -6 to -2 ? Is there any type of performance gain in tuning the PCM to operate within this window?
If GM has tuned my PCM to operate at 0 LTFT's: I increase my engines VE with a Lid & filter; my LTFT's adjust themselves to ie: +4, what benifit would I gain from tuning with "Edit" to get my fuel trims a tic below Zero?

Re: Why LTFT -6 to -2 ? I've heard and understand that as well. When you enter WOT, does it carry the current Ltrim value over into WOT (whatever it is and from whatever trim cell you're in?)
