Default Re: 27 degrees of timing at WOT

It's normal to see timing in the 40* range at part throttle. Prior to MAFT and HPP3, my 2000 SS would consistently sit around 40* cruising in 6th gear. WOT is really what you should be concerned with and 27* is about the max (actually it would always max out at 27.5*) that I was getting on the stock tuning.

Hope that helps.

Yup, sounds right. I see 27.5 max timing at WOT with the stock MAF. About 30 with ported ends.

It is plenty normal to see crazy timing figures at part throttle.

Default 27 degrees of timing at WOT

What would make my timing be 27 at WOT then go to 40 at part throttle? Would a bed 02 sensor cause this?

that's normal... if you were getting 40* of timing at WOT it'd be scary... unless you were running like 130 octane , hehe

I have a 2000 also... and stock I would pull 28-30* of timing at WOT... u may be experiencing KR.

do you have autotap or access to it?

Total of 0 KR. So it sounds normal, when I was on the dyno and the guy was reading the data I just sounded like it was a bad thing. He was saying I was about 35 HP short. But I did have a bad front 02 sensor.

anyone know what could be wrong with my car?

At WOT I am getting 3.8* of KR and my timing is at 17* at WOT.

I use chevron 91 octane, which is the highest I can get around here.

I'll have to scan it again when I get my A-tap. When I do get my A-tap I have 5 gallons of VP 103 octane and I was thinking of mixing in about 3/4-1 gallon in with the gas in the tank and see if it helps my knock retard.

2000 Camaro SS - sorry to step on your thread here...

SSilver,
Your KR is what's killing your timing. Once you get your Atap you'll want to check the following:

1) What are your WOT O2 readings (B1S1 and B2S1)? They should be in the .880-.910 range. Below that and you may be too lean for one reason or another - a MAFT or LS1Edit can fix this problem.

2) What are your average Lterms for fuel cells 1-19? A highly negative number (e.g. -15) may be causing the PCM to induce too much timing, which is causing your KR. This would likely be the result of your ported MAF. A MAFT or LS1 Edit could alleviate this as probably would going to a stock MAF.

3) What are your engine coolant temps? Based on my experience anything above 205-210F tends to cause some pinging, which will result in KR. Setting your fans to come on earlier with a switch or HPP3 can help. Also you may consider switching your plugs to TR6's (they're 1/2 heat range colder than the TR55's) - this helped me.

If steps 1-3 above don't solve your problem, oil in the intake manifold can also cause KR. Remove your air lid, etc., manually open your TB, and run your finger inside the TB and intake. See if you can see/smell and oil. It's not at all uncommon for oil to get by our PCV's. This problem can be fixed (or at least minimized) by installing a catchcan or inline breather filter in the PCV line.

Hope that helps <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
