I dont think this is possible at all, its a hidden secret that GM would not want you to do, besides its a BAD idea to do this =)

You can however reset the PCM, go to LS1.com and there is a link on how to do it.

I was curious as how to do it on an electronic one also. Mine is still the oldschool type on my 96. It's very simple to unplug it. You just take off the gauges and unplug the connector to the motor that turns the odometer.

Why don't you try taking apart the gauges and see if there is a dedicated connection to the odometer. Just don't forget to put some miles in between emission checks, and things like that.

my 98 has 106k on it and a while back one of my buddies who has some connections told me that he could reset mine for $100. I didn't ask how and didn't take him up on the offer, but just to let you know, there are ways to do it.

From my understanding, there's a chip in the gauge cluster that stores this... What you could try is see if you can get a GM Dealer to sell you a new gauge cluster... some will require your old one so they can see the mileage, but i'm sure there are some out there that wont ask for it... Others I've heard just ask for the mileage from you and set it to that...

on the trucks you just buy a new cluster and wala you have 0 miles, it takes less than 5 minutes to change the cluster and is prety cheep, about $230 for the whole thing and that includes a 120speedo and tranz temp gauge. not sure what the car one would cost.

i know that if you try to buy a new cluster at some dealers that they will need yours as a core. then they send it to the manufactor and they recover the milage and send you a new one with the same miles on it. these are the only people that i know of that can change it but they will not do it for you. if your car is a M6, you can just unplug the VSS and it will not efect anything. on an A4, if will effect shifting. this will not add on any more miles on your old cluster but your speedo will not work also and it will sent the SES light on if this bothers you.

Default reset or disconnect odometer?

I have a 01 Z28, that I bought from a junkyard. Basically nothing wrong with the car, except the engine is blown out with spun bearings, and bent rods, and a few other things. THey guy used too much NOS. Got the car for 3K. Now I bought a new 01- LS1 longblock to put in there, and connected everything up essentially, (used solid motor mounts instead of rubber ones). And it fires up fine, except it has 68900 miles on it for a 01????????? I was wondering how can you reset the odometer or disconnect it. Because a new engine I want it to read 00000 miles.

i am sure you can maybe mount a small AutoMeter some where so that you can still see how fast you are going while your origanal one will never rack up miles on it. also i forgot that your cruise control will also not work eather but who needs that anyway <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
