Default newbie question form oldie. Atap and timing and kr simple question.

I should know this and have wondered about it for the last year and a half but never have asked so nows as good as any.

Ok..lets say I atap and the timing is 20 degrees with 4 degrees of kr.

WOuld this mean timing was actually 24 and the value shown is minus the 4 degress or is the 20 after the retard has been applied OR am I completely confused and the 4 degrees of kr calcualted some other way.

Thanks guys.

Maybe if you could spell the words in your subject line correctly you would get more help, redneck! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" />

Good question. I use to assume that but after seeing the Knock Decay stuff in Edit, I wonder too.

Yea...i'm sitting here fooling around with ls1 edit and I have always kind of wondered about this but now that I see the tables I'm completely undecided as to which way the values read.

another question.....which i kind of implied in the origional post but didn't come right out and say it....

But is 4 degrees of kr a constant 4 degrees off your timing.

I know through looking at the timing tables that the fbody ls1's max kr value is 4 (the vettes are higher) but is this 4 degrees scaled in any way or can I assume that 4 degrees retard is minus 4 degrees takin off my timing at time of retard?

Looking at logs where knock occurs, you can always see the advance drops by pretty much exactly the same amount as the KR.

So I would be pretty confident in saying that the advance includes the knock retard.

If you've got EFILiveV5 load up the sample Grange_Knock.efi log file and you can see it plain as day.
The knock was caused by a misplaced IAT sensor.

I've always assumed the total timing advance reflected any KR at that data point. At least that's what my Autotap logs lead me to believe.

Well upon closer inspection of some atap llogs the plot has thickened. I have assumed the total timing included any kr HOWEVER.....

while looking at the log I noticed that right around the shift I had 19.5 degrees timing AND 3.8 degrees of retard.

What makes this unusual is the fact that I have the torque management set to retard the timing to 20 degrees on the shift (which corresponds to 19.5 in atap).

So....with this new information it leads me to believe the timing we are seeing is pre kr values.
