EFI Live question
Once you purchase the EFILiveV5 software you have to put in the license number to activate the software fully.
Also once you have it up and run you might want to vistor the Starr performance web site for update.
Updates software
Also you can visitor the EFILiveV5 Forum at EFILIVEV5 FORUM
You do not have to purchase a new cable if you do not want to. However if you use EFILiveV5 with the AutoTap AT1 V1 or AT123 V1 cable you will not be able to access the bi-directional controls. You will still get high speed data logging even using your old V1 cable.
Product numbers referenced on this page:
http://www.autotap.com/autotap_gm_products.html
To just license EFILiveV5 Standard (i.e. with no bi-directional controls) for use with your existing AT1 V1 or AT123 V1 cable you would need product number:
ATEFISTD - for the Standard software $144.95
OR
To upgrade your V1 cable to a V2 cable and then purchase just the EFILiveV5 Pro software you would need product numbers:
ATEFIPRO - for the software $194.95
Contact B&B for the cable upgrade price (around $75 I think)
OR
To purchase a new V2 cable and EFILiveV5 Pro (with bi-directional controls) you would need product number:
KAT1EFIPRO - for V2 hardware and Pro software $354.95

EVILiveV5 Standard Software only for KAT1x and KAT123x (version 1.x hardware) $119.95
Will this work with the v1 hardware?

<strong>What about the bottom one listed,
EVILiveV5 Standard Software only for KAT1x and KAT123x (version 1.x hardware) $119.95

The $119.00 product is a special that is only available until September 30 2002. After Sep 30 ATEFIV1STD will no longer be available.

1) Assuming I keep my current ATAP cable, How much faster at data logging will EFI live be than the version 2.X of Autotap?</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">EFILiveV5 (using the V1 hardware) will log 24 channels at 10 frames per second - the average number of useful PIDs that can be selected using 24 channels is about 19 because some PIDs use 2 channels. So EFILive can scan on average: 19 different PIDs at 10 samples per second.
AutoTap (using the V1 hardware) will log 1 PID approximately every 40ms. That's 25 different pids at 1 sample per second - which makes EFILiveV5 about 7.6 times faster than AutoTap V1.
These speeds are not fully determined by the speed of laptop or the interface. The speed is mostly controlled by the method used by the laptop software to scan the information from the PCM.
There are many ways to scan information from a GM PCM. EFILiveV5 uses a GM-proprietary mode to extract the information and is therefor able to take advantage of the PCM's high speed data transfer. This limits EFILiveV5 to only operating on GM vehicles. Other restrictions within EFILiveV5 further restrict EFILiveV5 to only operating correctly on GM's LS1 powertrain.
AutoTap is designed to work on all post-1996 US domestic (and most imported vehicles). This means AutoTap uses a data transfer mode that is compatible across all those manufacturers and models. It is a slower, but 100% compatible data transfer mode.
Note: As well as high speed data, EFILiveV5 also offers 3 other scan modes including the compatible scan mode used by AutoTap.

The speed of the data being sent is controlled by the PCM and is fixed at 10 frames (of 24 channels) per second. Both the V1 and V2 hardware interfaces can handle this speed no problems.
The only benefit of using the V2 hardware with EFILiveV5 is the ability to use bi-directional controls.

Thanks for the info. You've confirmed why I almost never log more than 5 items in ATAP. The cycle speed is slow. To check my shift points, I was logging only rpm & mph, I guess that gave me the capacity to log about 11 - 12 frames a second.
ATAP hasn't been very stable for me, crashes 1/3 of the time at the track leaving runs unlogged. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" /> Sounds like the EFILive software upgrade would probably solve my needs - stability & logging speed.

<strong>Alrighty then, I just tried ordering the $119 one. They said that since I have v1 hardware, which has no serial number like v2 hardware, no efilive software will work with my cable. Dats a bummer.</strong></font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">That sucks. I was thinking it would be worth the upgrade for $100. I'm not ready to spend the big bucks.
You can use EFILiveV5 with the following hardware:
AT1 V1 - data logging only
AT123 V1 - data logging only
AT1 V2 - data logging and bi-directional controls.
AT123 V2 - data logging and bi-directional controls.
With using EFILiveV5 on the track you may want to take a look here: http://www.starrperformance.com.au/e.../faq_index.htm
under the question: Can I use the spark and fuel maps to override the PCM when I am on the racetrack, dragstrip or just driving around?
