how can the PCM just die for no reason?

took the car to get smog/emissions test.
afterwards drove it for about 7 miles, then it wouldnt restart
took it to the dealer and dealer said there was nothing on the PCM, he said that it could have gotten a short or blew a fuse, but none of that happened.

I've seen them before no explaination just **** happens I quess. Obd-2 is good but we don't get much internal pcm logic capability's. Just wait cause obd-3 is coming.
