Default Low idle - idle surging

My car is an 02 trans am, manual trans, with 230/236 cam. It runs great when started and driven, 14.7:1 at idle, 14.3 at cruise, 12.8 at WOT.. Not bad.. But any time after letting off gas and placed in nuetral the car falls on its face and idles at 4-500 rpms and leans out anywhere 20-40:1!! Then revs to 1500 rpm at 10:1..the car Does this back and forth several times and returns to idle 900 rpm at 14.7.. Ive had one good tuner localy say its a timeing problem. I have EFI Live and if possible id be great if someone has a timeing table i could see for refernence??? I had help in that area and it seems its just a simple fix to have my car idle and not die.

as of now my base spark at idle and in gear is
0-800rpm 24*> across the board
800-1200rpm 26*> across the board
1200 and up is untouched to my knowledge. <whered id like to see someones table

My email adress is yingyang455@yahoo.com If anyone could send me something to look at!!

Whats the exact specs on your cam? I have the EXACT same problem as you, and even sometimes it'll stall out. My cam....also, is VERY close to yours. Mine is 228/236 .612./.590 on 114+2 lsa. If you end up figuring out the problem, please let me know!!!!!! Also, on a side note, on a warm start-up, my car will then have "automatic" cruise control, and idle at like 2K rpms until I come to a complete stop when it'll return to normal idle at 900 rpms. What could be causing this?

Thanks,
Adrian

is your VE tuned properly?
also, the spark at idle for bigger cams like that should be 28-32. it will help
most help you'll just get by raising the idle speed. makes life easy. you bought a race cam, so don't expect it to drive like a stocker.

I'd guess that you have some work to do on the low
end of the VE table, using old values with a big cam
makes the result rich and rich makes unstable. Add to
that, effects of shot-through air and unhappy cold
O2 sensors (if you're trying to run closed loop) and it
can get real soggy and sloppy.

You need the VE table right, all the way down to
below where you can get data, so that the map is
clean in places you might overshoot to, not just
places you sit.

I think everyone in this thread are not on here much anymore, as the original post was from 2006..

However, to answer your question on cam selection, It is a good cam if that is what your goal is. Talk to a shop directly like texas speed, or someone that deals with a lot of cams directly for your goals. Do it right the first time and you will be happy.
