The way I read this is:

If you buy the MPVI standard today for 499, then next month you realize you should have bought wideband support, you have to pay 289 to upgrade even though it was only a 150 option at the time of original purchase. Thats a 140 dollar idiot tax. In reality it probably has to do with the fact that the interfaces cost a lot to produce and once its used it shows wear no matter how slight, and can not be re-sold. Rather than eat the cost of the original interface, HPT charges you a little more to cover their loss.

But, as a Full Gen III package owner I think the new LS2 price structure is very dissapointing. Maybe I am wrong but.

05 GTO $1000
05 Vette $1000
06 GTO $1000
06 Vette $1000
SSR $1000

Thats a huge increase in price and hard to swallow for a lots of "tweaner" tuners. I can see $1000 for build year but for each Model/year is high. The primary reason for selecting this over something like EFI live was the attractive pricing struture.
It seems due to the new prices etc it may be time to look again at alternatives.

Dave

plus if you want LS7 that is going to be more still,

Some will complain about it, but the pricing structure, for a shop is very competitive, and for a individual user who wants to tune their own vehicles is a nice.

For the guy that does tuning on the side for money, it increases the cost a little, if they want unlimited, but in reality, I think that is a good thing, since it does not reduce the value of the tuning industry. While I have made a few $$ tuning on the side with my hptuners cable, my primary job relies on tuning knowledge to be worth $$, not something that can be done on an hour of street driving, for $100

You get 8 credits.
Each year ls1 fbody you get is 6 credits for unlimited vins.
4 years * 6 credits is 24 credits.
Alternatively you could add single VINs for 2 credits each.
an upgrade to 1-bar SD is 1 credit additional per vin.

don't get confused guys...if your just upgrading and this is NOT A NEW PURCHASE your not given any credits...whatever was on your old serial cable will just be transferred over to your new one.

Dealing with resale if the USB had used all credits and had single vech lic. then the value would be ~$100 -->$499- 8*$49.
Old cables can still tune 2 vech. that they had been purchased for. Just have to find someone that had at least one of those vech types to be worth at least ~$300.

LS7 is combined with LS2.

The 06 vette license will allow you to tune both LS2 and LS7 vehicles.

They are both Gen 4.

SoundEngineer is getting a good deal. 4 mod/vins is 900 in the old style + 200(new EIO) for the upgrade. instead of 649(new eio) + 800(credits to unlock 4 make models).

thats 1449 new, and 1100 old. a 350 dolla difference.

add 2 more years and there is only $150 difference. The guys complaining so much seems to be the ones that want multiple years. But HPT lowered the price for these guys buying extra years on the same cable by $100. Plus existing customers use the old pricing scheem where they can get their 2 extra years at $199. So noone really looses out here unless you tried to get multiple cables which just complicated things for HPT guys.

that's one hell of an idiot tax.

but it makes sense i guess. so when you upgrade to pro you send back the whole thing and get a new one? (not really sure what you'd have to send back exactly, be it cable, software, etc.)

Excuse me if this has already been covered but what I'd like to figure out is say I used 4 of my credits for 2-05 trucks and 4 for 2-04's, then I wanted to buy unlimited tuning for 05's. Will it cost me only 2 more credits since I have 4 already invested in the 05's or will I have to buy all 6?

***Edit: I do not have the serial version of HPT btw. I do have 2.1 on order though. I should have clarrified this.

you send back the interface AFAIK and get a new one. They are totally different, the USB one has buttons and what not on it for logging so its not a simple "swap this out" kinda thing.
