Default Opinions on HPP3 on A4 cars.

I am currently running 13.0's and 13.1's all the time on F1's. Of course I would like some more 12's. With the available adjustments in an HPP3 is it possible to pick up a tenth or two.
See sig for mods and any suggested set up tips would be appreciated...ie shift points and rev limiter settings ect..

Thanks
Kurt

The HPP is a good tool.. and useful on an A4 car. But.. if you plan to go with LS1edit in the future, it may be a waste of money. Best bet.. pick one up used, then sale it when you "upgrade" to LS1edit.

I have found one that I'm gonna offer 175 for and try it maybe. Do you think I can see a tenth or two?

What's your car 1-2 shifting at now? Also, what're rpm's on the 2-3 shift? The '02 cars usually 1-2 shift pretty low---mine shifted at 5500. HPP3 took care of that--6000 rpm. My 2-3 was good stock--6000. Upped shift firmness to +50% w/HPP3, also. Like John said, "It's a good tool." WJ. '02 A4 SOM SS. 12.82, 108.25, 1.92, 1800 miles on clock, ET Drags--26-8.5x15's.

Like above - my '02 1-2 shifted early (5400), so it helped me there. I also use 50% shift firmness, sometimes more for racing if it is hot out (thin hot fluid makes mush out of shifts).

Fan settings are good with a thermostat (I recommend a 180 - my 160 is too cold in spring, fall, and winter).

The Power Tuning won't run in mine without detonation most of the time.

If I were doing it over, I would buy used and upgrade to LS1 edit later also. Of course, when I bought mine, there were no used '02 units out there.

Thanks for replying guys...I have apretty gppd 1-2 shift right now..with the TransGO, it will go to 6k if it has decent traction. The TransGo also eliminated the benifit of a firm shift from the HPP3, leaving the fans and the bump in timing. Question to me is still...is there 1 to 2 tenths in a HPP3? I have a shift kit, so no advantage there. The car has always pretty much shifted at 6k all gears, no advantage there. Timing and fans, and fans are obviously not as critical in 50 deg weather as 80 and up weather. So what do you all think...did you see any real solid et improvements?

I picked up a solid 1.5 mph and .15 with the power tuning, no detonation at all. i set fans for a 180 stat but use a 160 stat, otherwise fans seemed to run constantly. if your maf is stock screen IN unit, as it should be, this devise should not cause detonation. i also use sunoco 94 octane only. tia, victor

Thanks for the replys...well thats one person who got a noted performance gain. I do have the stock MAF and screens are still in.

I would like to ba able to run on that Sunoco 94...we only have 93 in Tulsa, and no Sunoco.

Anyone else get anything from the HPP3 either better et's or maybe a dyno proven possitive or negetive?

Kurt: On my '99 M6 SS car, the HPP3 power tuning was good for 1/10. I also know a guy who has some extensive head work on a basically otherwise stock '01 M6 Z-28 and he swears by the power tuning. Claims over 1/10 gain. He also disconnects his stock Y-pipe at manifolds at the track. Runs 12.0's! On my '02 A4 SS car, I haven't even tried the power tuning w/my current setup, mostly because most everyone says they gain nothing on basically stock A4 '01-2 cars w/it. So, go figure.... Best wishes. WJ.
