Default 2.73 -> 3.42 gear swap...what do I have to change in LS1-Edit

I'm thinking of getting a 12-bolt with 3.42 gears to replace my 2.73 10-bolt. THe thing is I don't have the $550 to spend on 'Edit. One of the local speed shops has the professional version and would charge significantly less for a 1-time use, so I want to know EVERYTHING that I have to change for a gear swap.

I know I have to change the little box that says New Gear in the "Gear-Tire tab" and I'm guessing I also have to go to the 'A4 Shift Speed' panel in the "Transmission Calibration" window and change the shift pt MPH settings...should I just scale ALL these down by a factor of 0.79 (2.73/3.42) ?

Is this enough, or is there anything else that has to be changed?

Thanks
Mark

I went from 2.73 to 3.42s in my A4 2001. I changed the gear ratio specified, but didn't really mess with the mph shift points, because I thought they were all adjusted by the gear specification change... anyone know if I was wrong?

You will probably want to remove 'torque management', unless you are afraid of possibly somewhat faster transmission wear... see how to remove it here:

Also look into TCC lock-up table. I think my 98' ls1_edit didn't scale that accordingly. Also hot mode shift table wasn't scaled. Depending on your converter stall you may want to fine tune shift points.
I found out my part throttle shift points were too late to my taste after 2.73 -> 3.73 swap and ended up adjusting the whole normal/hot mode shift table. This was not because of a bug in ls1_edit but the shift delay and direct scaling of the shift table. Take gear scaling as a first guess to what you want.

If nothing else changes but gears then yes you will shift at higher RPM because of this. How it affects you depends on the converter. If it's loose the phenomena is less significant and you may actually want to shift slighlty late at part throttle to make verter feel less loose.

At worst the phenomena is just annoying. I shifted some 200-400 RPM higher at part throttle. WOT probably 150. This is not ls1_edit problem, but the same thing happens if you do nothing to the PCM and just use for example SLP speedo calibrator.

I do think it's a little optimistic to plan on just one flash to get things dialed in, even for a "simple" gear change. It's not quite like fan settings. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
