i just finished down loading a program to my pcm and i recet the pcm. i tried to fix something else with edit 1/2 hour later and it keeps trying to " re-establish connection with the pcm"???
it keeps cycling that message with no results.
i checked all the connectors and i also ran the EASE scanner just to make sure i don't have a problem with the under dash port and it worked , but the EDIT didn't??
and now my oil guage needle keeps twiching??
what is going on?? all the lights on the connector thingy are working ( except the second one from the left).

is there something wrong with the software?

Do you have an InfraRed port on your laptop? I had to disable mine to get edit to connect. My laptop would connect one time and then not connect 2 minutes later. My laptop kept confusing the IR com port and the edit com port.
Make sure edit is trying the correct com port.

it does have it , but why would it suddenly decide to connect using the infra raed port??
how do you make sure edit is not using the wrong port?

I find that I have about a 50% chance of LS1_Edit connecting on the 1st try <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" /> I have no idea why this is. What I typically do is disconnect the cable at the ADL connector and reconnect it and try again. If this doesn't work then I close the program completely and try again. Usually on of these two procedures works. I firmly believe the software has a bug in it which causes this <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

If there's a bug in the upload/download software, I have yet to find it. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> Never had a problem here, across multiple vehicles.
Anyhow, I tend to believe that your problem is being caused by something on the laptop. An infrared port can cause what you are seeing - it can connect, and then cause a disruption in communications partway through the download. I have been down that road myself. Disable the infrared port in the BIOS, make sure there are no drivers loaded on the laptop (Palm Hotsync, serial mouse, GPS interface, etc).
Good luck.

already did that , no go...
the laptop is dedicated to the car , so no other softwear is on it, plus none has been added for ages now.

ditto on the laptop.
The newer laptops seem to have this problem. I think it is related to the operating system.
Anyhoo, I use Win95 with a Com port and have NEVER had a problem connecting with my personal.
However, our new fangled laptop with every bell and whistle at the shop I have problems connecting with all the time.

i don't think it's the lap top, first cause it's been working flawlessly for a year. and second is cause i went to a tuner shop here and tried their cable and laptop.
