I replaced the 02s 500 miles ago and its still throwing codes about the 02s not switching quickly enough at part throttle, cept now only the passenger side is reporting the code. When the SES comes on for this the car starts feeling rougher than usual, like its surging while in gear. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Soundslike the O2 is toast. Don't rule itout just beacuse they are new. Sometimes they are bad right out of the box. I'll give an example. I had just picked up my new 94 Cadi Limo with just 24 miles on it back in 94, after about 20 min. into the drive home the car started running rough and black smoke was pouring out of the exhaust like an oil refinery. So I immediatley took it to the nearest Cadi dealer and it turned out to be a bad O2 sensor.
Did you look and see if the sensor has loosened up or backed out, if it backed out you will have a bad exhaust leak and that would throw off the readings and set a code. If it's tight and you still have the same problem then it's a bad sensor.
Good luck.

I dont think its the 02s dying because both were switching infrequently 500 miles ago, so I bought brand new ones. Those worked fine until now, and i am throwing codes again. I will take it to the exhaust shop today to check for exhaust leaks, anything else I can do?

Nick, what kind of programming are you using?
I know that ChrisB of SpeedDemon is very knowledgeable about LS1 Edit tuning.

I already told him to switch the sides to see if the problem follows the o2 or stays on the exhaust bank <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

From what I gathered over the years...
O2s are finicky. It's not unusual to have o2s crap out after heads and cam... But why? I think that coolant and crap runs down the exhaust pipes and coats the 02's.
Ditto for cars that run really rich after engine work. If you run rich, because you have stock tuning, you might be screwing up the 02s.
My suggestion? See if we can clean the 02's without ruining them.
Try to lean out the car at idle, maybe with the MAF T or add more timing with LS1 Edit or something.

I've been told that I should not even touch the 02 ends that any kind of grease can make them act screwy for a while.

Aright, I switched the 02s around and waited for the code to be set, if its reporting infrequent switching by the same 02 I know it went sour. Do they have a return policy on 02s that go out that damn quickly?

I have been fighting this problem for months myself. I have swapped 02s, replaced them and I still get it. This started happening after I got my Ed W. tuning. My comp. is back at Eds right now and I asked him to remove this code. Ill see what happens when I get my computer back.

Clean it up. You never installed it <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> . They probably do have some kind of limited policy - at least 90 days - you still have your receipt?

You can buy a $3 can of anti-static spray clearner from Radio Shack that cleans the O2 sensors wonderfully. Unscrew them, spray them, let them sit for about 3 minutes, wipe them off (air sry is preferrable), and screw them back in. Sometimes oil and carbon deposits will coat the inside of the sensors. Don't be afraid to really spray those suckers.

Thanks for the tip Kris. Purchased an aerosol can of the anti-static cleaner at Radio Shack for a paultry sum of $5, well worth it if it works <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> Ive got some sensor cleaning to do...

twice now my O2s have bailed within 10 miles after a head swap. I cant say I understand either. Last time both o2s failed within about 10 dyno runs after the swap. Weird, but a consistent pain in the rear.

I just installed my SLP LT's and got the same code on the passenger side, I just swapped out the o2 in the header with the unused one in the ypipe and so far so good, we will see
