Can the PCM serial number be changed?
By software or by hardware tinkering?
What I'm thinking of is, I'd like to have
a PCM with the same number as my original,
dry-store the original and run the spare
(with programming manipulation). That way
if I ruin one, mess up its data or whatever,
I could just swap back the original with
negligible down-time. But my PCM-serial-locked
programmer would be good with either since
they're the same.
I save all of my stock parts when I upgrade,
this is basically the same philosophy (or
rationalization for being a pack-rat).
Do any of the mail order tuners have the
ability to program the PCM with an arbitrary
S/N? Like "cloning"?
Old topic... but I've recently run into this issue where the S/N of a PCM I recently bought doesn't seem to be valid. When I try to flash the PCM, it fails to allow me to do so. What gives? Any updates?
You will need to edit the bin file by using the online Hex editor https://hexed.it/ open the bin file with wrong serial number , from the online Hex editor left side search the current wrong serial number and click find .. you will find the line that has the serial number in the bin file.. delete the wrong serial number only and enter the correct serial number .. from the top click save as and save it with different name .bin .. use LS droid or PCM hammer to do a full write flash with this new file. Now you it should show the correct serial number .. the attached picture with steps. good luck.
