HPPT3 or Predator ????
Predator deals. There're some going on now
that are as good as the group purchase I
got mine from.
I found the Predator really simple to use,
its capabilities include everything the
HPP3 can do (as I understand it) and many
things it can't, including monitoring things
(real time on its screen).
Predator performance tune can be revised by
the manufacturer or reps, and they do this
for free for the users. HPP3, you get what
you get. If you get minimal gains from the
Predator, you can have the tune adjusted for
your situation. If you get minimal gains from
the HPP3, so sorry.
On the other hand, prices on used HPP3s seem
to have taken a dive lately.

The things stated above are true. I have the HPPIII - bought it 2 weeks before the Predator was announced. Wish I had known. Get the Predator now while the introductory deals are on. You won't regret it

but what were you able to do with the hpp3 and were you happy with it ?
and what were you able to do with the predator ? vs. the hpp3 ?
Among other things, it lets you firm up A4 shifts by increasing line pressure AND reducing shift duration (this is what I wanted);
it lets you alter diff ratio in 0.01 increments;
it lets you alter cooling fan turn on/off temps in 1 degree increments;
I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think the HPP lets do you these things (or at least to this fine granularity).
...And the (backlit) LCD is huge...
Sure the Predator costs more, but you get what you pay for (and you only live one lifetime...).

With the Hypertech, you are stuck with the tune that they supply (and it rarely works in any cars-especially when you start mods). However, with the Predator, you have much more flexibility with everything. It is only a small step below LS1 Edit in my opinion! You can adjust from the base tuning enough to satisfy most cars, and when you go H/C or Blower, the Diablo people will give you a new base program for the Predator. And from that new base, you will have the same range of adjustment that you had before!
I highly recommend this over the Hypertech any day for the extra $$!!!!! I've had both now, so I can say that!
The only thing that I have seen so far that is not quite as good in the Predator is: the shift firmness is not quite as hard at max adjust as I would like it. The Hypertech had a little more firmness to it. But that is a very small item compared to the load of advantages!

I love my predator. One huge advantage the others didnt mention was the ability to raise the rev limiter and raise the shift points. I havent been to the track yet but it feels like it made a large difference. I have the 2.73 gears and went from a 1-2 shift at 44mph to 53mph

You better be careful raising the rev limiter unless you have upgraded the valvetrain!! The stock valvetrain won't take much more than the stock 6200 rpm rev limit!

thanx for the in put , thats what i was looking for , when i have the $ thats what ill do & ill stop looking for a used hpp3
Neither. Get Edit for only a little more. You won't regret it down the line.

If you don't have a laptop, it isn't "a little bit more"! Plus add in Autotap because Edit doesn't have any diagnostics and you are sitting at several times the cost of the Predator. And in my opinion you are paying for a whole lot of stuff that the average user won't ever use.
Don't get me wrong - LS1Edit and Autotap have their place with certain people, but for a vast number of us, the Predator fills a much wanted void in the middle of HPPIII and Edit/Autotap.
Just my 2 cents!
It would be nice if you could delete Torque Management on the '01-'02 F cars w/Predator. Supposedly you could, but everyone seems to say that you cannot....Anyone comment on this?
