Default LS1 ECM/BCM help needed

I've recently purchased a 98 T/A LS1/4L60E to be grafted to a 68 Camaro. It arrived without a BCM. I have no desire to use VATS functions. Will the ECM run my vehicle without BCM so long as fuel pump wiring is directly re-routed? Is VATS key bypass no longer an issue without BCM in the picture? Any thoughts by LS1tech members are appreciated! Thanks.

No. You'll have to use a VATS module to simulate the signal or have the PCM reprogrammed to turn VATS off.
VATS has nothing to do with the fuel pump.

The BCM generates a fuel enable signal that runs between 40hz and 60hz. Without this signal the motor will start and run only about 3 seconds. It is possible to build a signal generater but easier to just get a BCM.

I'll be asking the salvage yard for the missing BCM and also have VATS switched off. I wasn't implying there was a direct connection between VATS and fuel pump, but rather was referring to a possible relationship of VATS function to the missing BCM, and to fuel delivery function of the BCM. Perhaps I didn't state my query properly. Thanks to John S. and B Buster for the assists.

I just wanted you to understand that the fuel pump is NOT what is controlled by the VATS system. I get so many emails from guys saying: "I've got 12 volts wired directly to my fuel pump but the engine still won't start. What could be wrong?"

VATS turns off the injector pulses from the PCM, which is why fuel pump and/or fuel pump relay mods have no effect.

This incorrect info seems to run rampant on sites like thirdgen.org and camaroz28.com where everybody with a keyboard in his hand is an expert on how everything works. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

If you have a good junkyard, grab a VATS module from a 94-96 Caprice cop car. They give the correct signal and require no key pellet interface. Just hook-up power, ground, and VATS signal to the PCM!

Much easier than trying to wire up the BCM!!!

Good luck on your project. The LS1/first gen swap seems to be getting popular. We've done several custom and rework harnesses for first gens recently.

John S. Before my original query, I had done a search on Yahoo for "LS1 electrical", or a topic akin to that. One of the results turned up a website that told of a LS1 conversion in which the owner ran his setup without BCM. He did not mention the addition of VATS module, or VATS delete, but your latest message ties together all the threads I've received.
I'm a telephone company guy for 30 years now, and am used to good prints and good circuit explanations. Sometimes it IS a little confusing trying to sort through and derive an answer in the auto world. Thanks for being a mentor. You're a gentleman. GMAG

would grounding out the bcm cause the fuel pump not to work? what else would this effect??

If this were -my- '68 Camaro project, I would be
very, very tempted to go get one of those new
carburetor LS-1 manifolds, the kind that comes
with the electronic ignition control, and say bye-bye
to the whole computer octopus and its kin. Yeah.
Single-wire engine harness, bag o' jets, have a nice
day.
