Default Official: Why BS3 is the best aftermarket controller out there

Hehe.

Anyway, if you are running a BS3, post in here. Let's hear how your combo is doing.

I'm running BS3, no factory pcm anymore, and will be controlling 160 lb injectors with it soon, and plan to make 1000-1100rwhp.

160lb injectors.... that's like moving an entire person worth of fuel in 60min

60 min/8 = more like 7.5 minutes

Why haven't I head of BS3? what is it?

Why not shoot higher???

Have you elaborated on your combo in another thread?

I've never driven a 1000-1100rwhp car before, so I want to get used to it. Plus I am not sure my shortblock will take it.

I hear that BS3 will handle the 160's no problem, we'll see. I have been running 83's with no problems.

I haven't heard of anyone using the feature yet, but the newest BS3 is said to support 2 independent fuel systems (2 injectors per cylinder) which can be used to provide additional enrichment fuel for nitrous perhaps? Or how about transitioning from one type of fuel to another under boost (say from 89 octane to 112...kept in 2 different tanks). Or perhaps to add enrichment fuel up top when you desire smaller injectors for better driveability.

Intmd8 is reportedly running that staged injection.

I have sold my blower setup, and am going turbo. I am hoping to run good 8's and make over 1000rwhp.

Yep, BS3 kicks ***.

I'm running staged injection, dual fuel systems, 16 42lb injectors. I also have the stock pcm wired in to run the gauges and such.

Can you provide me/us with details of your staged fuel system? Is this an auxiliary meth system? Does it kick in gradually, or transition all at once? What type of flexibility does BS3 allow in this regard?

Perhaps you can just point me to a thread that already covers this.

Thanks.

Staged injection allows you to run 87 octane in the main tank for putting around town, and 118 octane in an auxiliary fuel cell for when you come up into boost. The PCM is programmed to blend in the injector duty cycles so there is a smooth transition from 87 up to 118 octane as needed. It allows the car to get the actual octane fuel it needs at the current load level, and is not just a harsh switch from 87 to 118.

That makes good sense. It would seem that 'load' would dictate the blend you need rather than something like TPS or boost pressure. (although load is primarily measured by boost in this case I suppose).

I'm curious as to how you mount the 2nd set of injectors....what type of intake manifold is used, where does the 2nd set get mounted? Which set gets preference? the critical high octane set, or the low octane set? (preference in terms of getting the premium mounting location).

Many manifolds have bosses for direct port nitrous, do you start with one of those and drill it out for the 2nd set of injectors?

probably will just use a aluminum intake and weld on another set of injector bungs. like the holley - ls6 style, gmpp single plane or eldebrock victor jr. single plane.

I haven't talked to Intmd8 about staged injection for a while, but I'm guess that it's TPS referenced. Just a guess, maybe the 2nd set comes on above 50% TPS. I have no idea. And when I last saw his LT1, he was running a custom raised runner sheetmetal intake, so I'm guess he modified it for the 2nd set of injectors and fuel rails.

I was going to run BS3 but it wasn't very nitrous friendly from what I could tell and Gen VII DFI was more geared towards nitrous.... BS3 seems like it kicks *** for those with Forced Induction.... I know that BS3 could turn stuff on and off but it seemed like I would have had to jerry rig my solenoids....

This is from the description of Intmd8's car on Speed's website.

BS3 engine management with Staged injection and dual fuel systems. Stock tank/93 octane/walbro 255 feeds primary set of 42lb injectors. 7.8 gal fuel cell/110 octane race fuel/walbro 255 feeds secondary 42lb injectors when the first set reaches 90% duty cycle. (at which point fueling is shared equally between both sets of injectors)
