Default wide band 02

What do you guys think?

http://techedge.com.au/vehicle/wbo2/

Made in Australia. They have DIY kits or complete kits.

Cost is $358 US shipped for a complete kit.

Is there a cheaper solution for a complete wide band kit?

I've got one of them.

Cost me about $230 with sensor. I got the assemble it yourself kit, cost about $100 with the exchange rate.

Nice piece <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Only thing is, the NTK sensor used is becoming some what scarce. And thus, people that have them are jacking up the price.

The new version due out this summer will use the more readily available Bosch sensor.

If you can find a sensor, it's a good setup.

Found some more info:

This kit requires a 2 cell wide band O2 sensor that was used on a lean burn Honda Civic. It is available from Honda dealers, and from www.hparts.com.

Application/part number:
92-95
Honda Civic
1.5 VTEC
36531-P07-003

The generic NAPA equivalent may be cheaper, but may not be widely available:
NAPA Part number OS791

Edit: hparts.com wanted 243.35!!! Looks like I'll stick with NAPA if they have it.

That's pretty standard for a wide range sensor. But, $130 is the "cheap" price. The market has driven the price up in the last few months. I picked mine up from the partsbin back in december.

The price was still $130, and i grabbed 2 of them as i run leaded fuel and expected to kill them quick.

here's some info on the sensor itself, FYI
http://www.techedge.com.au/vehicle/wbo2/wbntk.htm

You can try the Oz-DIY mailing list on yahoo, as they always seem to have a discussion going on where to get a sensor. And bitching about people "over charging" for them <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/oz-diy-wb/

but, even at $300 total it's a smokin deal for a portable WB-O2 that's as good as most out there. And food for thought, the $1k+ setup at the shop where i dyno uses the same NTK sensor, as well as all the development cars at work.

Thanks for the info Harlan!

I checked with thepartsbin.com and had to call. The guy said I won't see those for a long time. I guess they've been on order since Nov. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" />

I just ordered one through napaonline.com and I hope they can deliver it.

I might check a few other places just in case NAPA doesn't come through.

Finally got around to installing your shift light. Love it! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> If you were making the wide band, I'd be ordering it from you. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Edit: Just checked partsamerica.com... $588!!! <img border="0" alt="[bullshit]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_bs.gif" />

Thats good to hear coming from you Harlan. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Where do you get the sensor? Does a certain vehicle use it?

I guess you can go to NAPA and get this part #: ECHOS791

Cost is $139! Yikes!

Just an update here. I had MAJOR problems finding this damn o2 sensor until I found from the Tech Edge board that people were getting them from Autozone in a reasonable time frame. Last week, I went to autozone.com and ordered Autozone part # 13246 which happens to be the Bosch 13246 and is actually a L1H1 sensor. Just got it today. Cost $170 through Autozone.

Good topic. I'm shopping for a wideband as well...what about all these guys??

<< interesting comment by lamdaboy about the DIY-WB...any counterpoints? >>
http://www.lindseyracing.com/wbos.htm
http://www.fjoinc.com/automotive/WBO2details.htm

Just for starters around $500. Plenty more as you move toward $1000....
How many of these ARE ripoffs of the diy-wb (not sure that's really a valid position, since the schematic for the diy-wb is also on the techedge website, if I remember correctly

I have the FJO. Its logs rpm ,afr, and 0-5v source. Costs around $900. Its not a rip off of the diy been around much longer. It uses the Honda-NTK sensor. No problems. Probably eventually switch it for two of the techdege units.

Those all seam like decent kits. I don't like the first one though. Where the hell will you mount that huge display??? The other displays look long so you'd have to put it on top of your dash where the Tech Edge has a thinner display and could easily be velcro'd anywhere. Keep in mind, the Tech Edge has logging capabilities to a Palm or Notebook. The only thing about Tech Edge is they don't offer the 02 sensor with their kit but I think with the new v2.0 system they will offer it.

I have the FJO kit as well and I have been extremely pleased with how it has performed. It is also dead nuts accurate...it has consistently matched all of the WB readings from the dyno when I have had the car on the rollers.

I will probably sell my FJO kit for ~800 (the sensor, nice display, and logging kit) when I decide on which way I am going to go with engine management. Right now I am leaning towards trying to get a Motec M800 with the dual lambda option...one for each bank!

I'm sure you'll all forgive me if I get the shakes anytime it comes to sending money to anyone in Australia < cough...Incon..inside joke...cough >

Australian kit does look like a good deal if you can bag a sensor, though...(I'm ignoring the places where you can buy it for $400...who cares?)

From Autozone.com:
BOSCH OXYGEN SENSOR OXYGEN SENSOR for a 1995 HONDA CIVIC

Unit Price: $0.00
Core Value*: $0.00
Part No.: 13246
Weight: 0.00 lbs.
Warranty: 3 MO
Availability: Online: Not Available
Store: Not Available
Note:

NONE

Looks like they've sold out. I had a previous bad experience with napaonline.com involving the LS1 head gaskets they sell under the Victor-Reinz part no...basically they waste a month of your time and then tell you they can't get it

Well, so far me and Harlan have had good luck with Tech Edge. It actually arrived much quicker than I thought. Its always scary sending money out of the country but I would think your credit card can protect you if something goes wrong.

That sucks about Autozone. I think they had a surge of orders on these and can't get any until more come in. I should of bought more! There's a used one on ebay if you search for NTK L1H1. Version 2 is coming out soon which uses an available sensor.

How soon?? I subscribed to their v2.0 update list

I need a wideband now - buying the v1.5, and then either shelling out $400 for a sensor, or not being able to get one isn't going to help much

Not sure when they'll get the 2.0 out but it sounds soon but I've been saying that on the LS1M turbo kit for the last 5 months.

Check out this group page:

http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/oz-diy-wb/messages/

Its for the tech edge WB and there's some other sources for the 02 sensor. One guy sounded like he had a few for sale. I also saw someone posted an SHO site that had them for $200. Might want to post a WTB 02 sensor thread and see what happens.

go here and select the "Misc." link at the top :

http://www.shonutperformance.com

BTW- napaonline.com never worked out. They ended up canceling my order after 3-4 weeks since they can't get it. I'd keep checking back all sources including ebay.
