Default Tune for full exhaust and lid?

I recently bought a 00 trans am m6.

It has flowtech LT headers, ory pipe with 02 sims, and slp loudmouth, and whisper lid and k&n filter.

Would any of this require a tune like ls1 edit?

I'm getting about 22 mpg on highway (expected more) and thought maybe its running rich. (Altho not sure how to tell)

Any advice?

You *should* be getting better mileage than that with an M6...

If you can get a tune for cheap, it will help you. Otherwise, the expense might not justify the gains. I just bought my own tuning software and learned how to do it myself.

If you are planning on future mods (like a cam, etc), you might just wait.

Thats what I thought, is it typical to need a tune for just an exhaust upgrade? (The LT's move the o2 sensors so thats my thinking)

I'm a software engineer, so the tuning software by home interests me, is ls1edit the way to go? Is it hard to learn?

Being a software engineer will help you greatly...LS1Edit isn't really able to compete with HPTuners and EFILive's Flashscan. For your own tuning software, either program is the way to go (but not Edit).

Tell you what...send Black02SS a PM about tuning...he runs Green Light Motorsports, and is right there in Indiana (where I grew up incidentally). He'll get you hooked up with the info you need...stand up guy, and wouldn't sell ya anything you wouldn't need. Knows his tuning **** too.

Thanks for the kind words Steve. For your mods it will help you if you tune the car to its full potential. I have done a lot of cars as well as used all the software packages out there and highly recommend EFILive. The ease of use, customer support, and frequent updates make it a very awsome package. I am runing a special on the package with a wideband until the 9th of April. If there is anything I can help you with, please let me know. Just make sure whatever you decide, you invest in a wideband. It will make your experience that much easier and it is essiential to the tuning process.

Drat, Black02SS beat me before I got the PM out. LOL

Do you believe the tuning is the source of my mileage mpg woes? Or perhaps something else, or just poor driving? ;-)

I don't have any track times to back my car up, but after my tune with the same mods you are talking about (basically just full exhaust, pretty much all bolt-ons), my car woke the hell up with my tuning.

As Chad said...a wideband is KEY. I wouldn't tune a car without one.
