Default What is the best way to go?

I am doing a LS1 conversion and was going to send my computer in to have the VATS disabled and the VIN changed along with a few other things. After doing some research it seems like I should be able to buy some tuning software (Either EFI Live or HP Tuners) and do this myself. I was planning on purchasing some later anyway to play around with and do my own tunes.

My question is should I take the money that I was going to use to have the computer reprogramed and buy the tuning software and just do it all myself? Will both EFI and HP enable me to make these changes? And are these changes not that difficult if someone is willing to work at it?

Tuning can be alot of fun. And damn near addicting. My .02 if you can find a good deal on a tuner program jump on it.

I was in the same boat as you recently, decided to go with EFI Live.

Deleting VATs/CAGs/AIR etc etc etc is very very easy, my engine is now running (as of about 2 hrs ago ) my vote is go for it!

I've got EFILive that I use for my 01 GMC. I know it will do all you are asking and plan to do just that with a 5.3/4L60, with a turbocharger, I'm putting in my dads 72 4x4 longbed. Also putting 4-link and air bags front and rear on the pickup Should be fun and ride like a Caddy .

Yes, EFI Live is the answer. I suggest checking out Green Light Motorsports for a good deal on EFI Live and a wideband. Chad and Co. are good people.

I agree with everyone here. Take the extra money and do it yourself. If it is just some simple code changes, I am sure I can help you out for a small fee, but I would rather see you get into a nice package personally.
