Did you just change it/air in the system? Aftermarket gauge/scanner reading 205? My car came with a 180 according to the owners manual. I have a 160 with fans set at 184/175 and 194/185 and stock gauge still reads the same. I watch my high speed fans cycle on/off on the highway.

seems to be ok, i used the high speed fan to be first and low second and set it on at 180 off at 170 and 2nd fan as low on at 190 and off at 181.. its in the 90s today
so i took the scan tool and went for a ride fan on all the time at about 178, but when
the temp goes back to 75 - 80 out side or night time it will get down to
170 and go off, mite have to adjust alittle after outside temp comes down.
im seeing 161 at the lower hoes and about 175 at top of hose and radiator. seems like the low speed fan wasnt cutting it it would let it get to 185 then the high one wouod
come on and seemed like to much temp swing i dont care for the swing back and fourth with a aluimiunum block. i wonder how low that 160 thermo will go come 40
-50 degrees out side , does and body no what open loops theses cars besides
02 and water temp i thinkk any want to add to this mess...........................

When I change my thermo to a 160 I didn't drain the water, just unbolted the part where the thermo goes, water obviously came out, I swaped it, and plumbed it all back together. Toped up the water, turned the car on, and temp went well over half way on the guage. Turned the car off, squeezed a few pipes, could har bubbles, filed up with more water, done thie process many times, mast have taken me half hour in all, finally started the car and temprature was under half way, was spot on half way with old thermo.

I would guess its just air in your system, its a bugger to get out, and causes high temperature readings.
