Default considering HPtuners

my SES light is on because my AIR broke. i read that its not a big deal so basically i just want the light to go off. so far i've heard that the only way to get rid of it is to user a program like HPtuners to delete it for good. With the thought of getting this program, i was wondering if i could benefit from any of its other features, but i'm not sure what all HPtuners can do? Sorry for my ignorance, but can it tell you about your current HP/Torque? And how hard is it to tune your car with this? Would i be able to get any more horsepower out of my 01 SS with just a lid and cutout? ANY info you could provide me with would be great. Thanks!

Odds are, you will be able to pick up some power
and torque because the vehicle is overfueled and
under-advanced from the factory.

As to tuning difficulty, that really depends on how
well you understand the basics that any motor
wants, and how well you pick up trivia (what in
the whole pile of params does what, and all the
jargon etc). The basics are pretty basic. All the
fussy wheels within wheels that GM put in there to
get Grandma drivability and Big Brother EPA happy,
is more tangled. But it's all there for the learning
and it's not like you -have- to touch what you
don't understand. It's optional

You can go lurk on the HPTuners forum and see what
people mainly do with it, and what sort of help you
might find.

Just make sure you get the wideband-ready hptuners.
No wideband = approximate tuning on stock O2s

I learned that first hand
