Upgrade OS on PCM with HPTuners?
I believe I have a problem which can be fixed by a OS (firmware?) reflash.
The update is supposed to fix...
Part#: 9365981 CalID: 9365942 CVN:N/A New calibration corrects setting of false P0103 code
This is for a 98 F-Body.
If I have someone's 98 .bin that has had the upgrade applied(which I don't yet), can I just copy my VE, timing setting etc. over the new .bin file & "write entire" to my PCM that way?
...or do I have to go to the dealer for this update?
...or should I just set "MAF fail high" from 11250 to 14000 like in a 99 .bin I looked at?
TIA

Its not that you can't do it yourself. You will need a completely stock calibration for that updated OS and do a write entire.
The problem here is if there is anything wrong with the new calibration (you really have no idea of what you are getting off the net), you run the risk of killing that VCM.
We are just trying to avoid any issues as we know the new OS from the dealer is trouble free and has not been messed with.
Also if you are an MPVI user and did not choose model/year you will need to be licensed for both files.

Also there is some variety of '98 OSs and the calibration
data between them can be incompatible, to your sorrow.
So starting with a known good factory setup is safest.
Should be half an hour shop rates to get a simple flash
done in-car.

Dealers will be between 1/2 hour and 1 1/2 hour for a reflash.
You have to be careful, as any bad 98 bin will kill a pcm, or if you do a partial write, it will also kill the pcm, if the checksums are bad.
When you datalog, what actual frequency do you get to, or what kind of power does the car make?

I have logged the Hz & sure enough, once I get to about 5500+ RPMs the Hz, gets over 11250 & the SES comes on.
I probably can set the MAF Fail Freq to 14000, but I was wondering if the update will let me modfy the Hz over 11250...I really don't know how to PCM will handle Hz over 11250, since that is where the table ends...I guess it would just go into SD mode when I pull that much air???
1.5 hours at a dealer is kinda high, if they are only changing the MAF Fail Freq (which I can just change myself).
..guess I need to call & see how much they'll quote me on this...hopefully they won't give me a hard time, since I've changed the factory tune with my own.
