Default Super Low Dyno Today

Well today my buddy got his 99 Camaro M6 dynoed, and much to our surprise he made some sh!tty number. His mods are as follows:

BBK TB
Patriot LS6 heads
TR 220/220 Cam, pushrods, oil pump, double roller.
Stock exhaust manifolds (for now)
Magnaflow catback
Lid + K&N filter.

he dynoed, 329/340 or something horrible like that on a dynojet. I'm still waiting for the shop to email me the files.

I was so shocked I didn't notice what HP Tuners was telling me. When we got home I noticed his timing the whole time was between 20-22 degrees with some slight KR here and there. AFR was around 13:1 so a little fuel should be adder for the street.

It almost looks as though he was running on the low octane table, but I don't know why... the only code he has disabled is the AIR Pump, because it's dead... IATs were around 90, so it wasn't pulling timing there. With my tuning he should be running 28-29 degrees for those cells. Any clue as to what would cause it to run 20-22 with no KR?

I'm thinking a little more fuel and 6-8 degrees more timing might pick up a few horses huh? ... He should be doing around 360 or so...

Just thought I'd share this...

Headers will make a big difference...at least 20-25hp since it's a head and baby cam car. Until then, it's a crap shoot.

Sounds like it is either on the low octane fuel tabel, or you need to retune the primary table. Just tune the spark up till it knocks then back off a degree, that will get the spark where you want it.

And those stock manifolds arent helping any with heads and cam.

Headers, thats whats holding your power back, that would be my bet at least. Go from there

Headers? Yeah headers are a no brainer guys. He'll probably be getting those soon. but the point is it should at least make 350 in my opinion... I'm thinking 8 degrees of timing is leaving a lot on the table more than anything else.

A month or two ago he said he raced an 04 cobra with a pulley an CAI and he said he was at the cobra's rear bumper... so he must have been hitting full timing then... Cobras can make 400 without breaking a sweat. Weird.

I just have to figure out "why" it's holding back... I've never had a car do that to me before. I have a little logging I did when he first got heads/cam done and he was hitting 28 degrees of timing. Perhaps bad gas or some false knock is making it gravitate towards the low octane side.

lol, I know what I'm going to be doing tomorrow... log, analyze, flash, repeat.

yes 6-8 degrees will cause you to lose lots of power.

Careful with the Cobra comparison...they usually run ~500lbs heavier than an f-body.

I hate to get off topic but it's not 500 lbs. According to MSN Auto 3665 for 04 Cobra and 3404 for a 99 Z28. So let's call it 250 lbs. The point is that there is no way he could keep up with a modded cobra with 329 rwhp.

Anyways I'll let you guys know what happens.
