Default Top Speed

Is there any reason a stock Z28 shouldn't be able to go 150+ mph? Is there any kinda of speed regulation? Thanks,

Matt

I think the PCM has a fuel-cutoff programmed at 165. Many people here have gone well in excess of 160 MPH. I'm not one of 'em, but I have been upwards of 145 in stock trim. Most bone-stock F-bodies will do 145+ easily.

155+ here, but I used the HPPIII to take out the speed limiter.

Speed limiter is between 158-161 on F-bodies.

I have only been up to 130. I heard the cutoff point is 159. But obviously thats not true since some of you have done 160.

I have had my 2001 Z28 6-speed up to exactly 160MPH, verified by a GPS reciever that was updating every 9 feet. It was still pulling slowly and I bet it would have hit the rev limiter in 5th gear. I picked a bad night to do this on because the road I was on was really foggy and at 160 I couldn't see anything in time even to think about stopping. Oh yeah, I did this when the car had about 2200 miles on it and it was ALL STOCK. The problem you will face when passing about 165MPH is that you will have to shift to 6th gear. If you have stock gearing. Once you are in 6th gear the engine will not be in the power band enough to keep you at that speed, much less accelerate you any faster.

I've been 151, once, before 4.10's, don't know what it'd do now, but I have a suspicion that it might actually pull in 6th gear now. I think close to 165 would be a good estimate. Maybe an update soon.....

No you won't pull 6th. Not even with 4:10's.
Matter of fact, 4:10's are the worst possible gears for max MPH. You will hit the rev limiter in 5th at ~152. Then bog into 6th and lose speed. 3:73 is the optimum gear for stock engined cars for peak MPH. Easily hit the limiter.

Speed limiter is 162mph, confirmed by Chevy, and tested on a dyno. It does fuel shutoff much like the rev limiter. Some cars have 118mph, depending on options.

Stock engined/gears cars don't really need the limiter, as the gearing won't get into the peak.

You'll hear people saying their stock car will hit the limiter easily. They are full of ****.

99taws6, you are stationed in germany right? Thats so awsome that you can top that beast out on the 'bahn Great vid too.

I believe the six speed cars can do 160 stock. I have been 145 in a stock A4 ta, and it had more left in it. The firebird ram-air is good for like 1lb of boost at that speed. Maybe even more.

My friend Jessie has one in his car.. We are both installing TNT kits right now.. When we get it done we will do a autobahn run or 2... We both have full suspensions so it should handle ok..... I will keep everyone posted....
