I have had my stock GM bottom end with stock GM rod bolts to 7900rpm. Also with a large hyd cam. But I know of others that have blown theirs up at 7000. I now have the problem that the stock pcm tables don't exceed 8000rpms. My engine has tons of spring pressure and a Beck sheetmetal intake.

the stock bottom end is quite strong i turn mine 6800. you need to have the wright valve springs to turn more than stock red line. some times turning more rpms will not make the car go faster no point in turning 7 grand if there is no power up there. i shift my car just after peak hp rpm.

All that means is you can't make tuning changes after 8000, doesn't mean the PCM won't run past 8000.

So Ed Wright, my next question is do you set the fuel cut to 0??? I do see some of my logs the engine will spike momentarly to 8100-8200 between gear changes, but I have never had it loaded past 8000. My new project will test the limits of the stock pcm. It seem that everyone is quick to toss the stock pcm, but it seems to be very flexiable, at least in N/A applications.

Why would you set the fuel cut-off to zero?? Makes no sense. Set it where you want it to cut off, same as always.

You can't. I want it at 8500 but when I try to change it with HP Tuners it goes right back to 8000. The thought was to change it to 0 and see if that would get rid of the rev limiter. If that didn't work I would be stuck at 8000rpm when my engine should peak at 7900. Any suggestions on the stock pcm to get it to turn past 8000rpm?

I have my rev limiter set at 6750 rpm (to be on the safe side), my car makes useable power to 7000 rpm. You will be safe to 7000 rpm depending on your component choices.

What about 98-00 rod bolts vs. 01-02 rod bolts as well as the oil pumps. I also hear the 98 blocks have oiling issues above 6200.

Rod bolts <2001 are a real issue. They were upgraded in 2001.
Trust me on this.

I know in EFILive you can set the fuel-cutoff in gear to 12799.8 rpms, but you can set the Shift at RPM higher than 8198 rpms. But I guess if your car is a stick or you shift it manually that doesn't matter.
