Default New PCM question!

I have been trying to solve a major probblem with my car and if you would like to help just search for my post in internal and in here. I am getting a new pcm to see if that is the problem but the parts manager at advance auto told me that the pcm would have to be programmed specific to my vin. That's cool but they don't do that. How do I get it programmed to my vin and how much does that cost. Also, I have the stock and tuned file from my original pcm. Could I upload one of those files on the new pcm and it be fine. And will my predator allow me to do this considering it is vin # sensitive?
Thanks Ryan

Also-My predator is now not detecting any fuel trims. Is that consistant with a bad pcm?

No, that is normal when the O2's are bad and it is reverting back to open loop. I have flashed my PCM HUNDREDS of times and never had a problem or seen a faulty PCM to be honest.

The new PCM needs to be "unlocked" before it can be programed. This is done by the dealer via an internet connection with GM. After it has its initial calibrations loaded, then you can re-write them all you want with an aftermarket tuner. I could be wrong, but I don't think any of the aftermarket tuner programs can perform the initial programing of a new PCM. Anyway, most dealers would probably charge between 1.0-1.5 hours labor for the programing.

Go to the dealership with your new PCM in the trunk,
along with the tools to pull battery cable & PCM
connector. Get an in-car reflash done on the new
PCM (swap it after you get in the service bay) that
will put your VIN on it. I did this and my (old version)
Predator didn't know the difference, worked on both
PCMs. Couldn't say whether this is an old or a new
Pred unit you're talking, or whether (if new) Diablosport
has gotten any more "sophisticated" with the vehicle
locking.

I'm certain you can do better on PCMs than Advance
pricing, for a '99-'02 any of the F-body or pickup truck
cores will do. I think my spare, reflashed PCM was from
a truck. I got it from "valvegod".

Also kind of doubt the PCM is the problem from the
kind of info posted before. Trouble is you don't have
the kind of diagnostic capability you really need.

Try finding someone with an AutoTap, EFILive or
HPTuners who can sit and scan the car for broader
information, see what changes as it's changing, see
real time O2 waveforms and so on. Before and after
pics don't tell whether it's diet, exercise or liposuction.
Anybody with these tools can scan your car and make
an Excel file of the data so anybody could review it
(tools or not).
