Default Converting AT1 autotap to usb

I did a couple of searches but couldn't find an answer....

I bought the AT1 AutoTap a LONG time ago. Well, my old laptop is very nearly dead and my new one doesn't have a serial port on it. I've tried a serial-to-usb converter from ebay but it still won't connect. Also, I lost my original discs and have tried using V2.05 and V3.00 that I downloaded from the AutoTap website and have tried downloading the ATUSB drivers too but nothing has worked. Am I stuck buying a new setup?

Thanks in Advance!

I have the AT1 interface and just like you my new laptop did not have a serial port. I called B&B Electronics and was told to use the EdgePort USB-to-Serial convertor. I bought it (a little pricey but I needed it for work also). It has worked flawlessly since. Here is link to it, it is the Edgeport/1 http://www.digi.com/products/usb/edgeport.jsp

You can get it from B&B Electronics (same people that make AutoTap).

USB to serial adapter drivers (actually it is the chipset used in the adapter) can be a bit finicky. If you did not want the EdgePort, I would ask your friends if they had an adapter you could try.
I have heard that the cheap adapters would not work correctly.

no idea, I use efi live with my old AT1 cable. I have an autotap cd around here somewhere but I have no idea which version it is.

Not according to AutoTap's web site. The highest you can go is the 2.xx version if you have the AT1.

I know this is late but I needed a serial to usb adapter for Atap too. If you are running Microsoft XP you'll need to make sure you get an adapter with signed drivers for XP.
