The car has only 300 miles on it and it is in limp mode (no 1st and 4th gear) already. I dropped it off a the dealer this morning. I would have like to have read the actual code that was set before the dealer clears it.

hptuners Standard($499) or pro mpvi($649)will allow you to scan enhanced GM parameters/read codes on any vehicle on its supported list http://www.hptuners.com/products/vcmsuite_vehicles.php free of charge including CAN vehicles and will usually scan generic parameters & dtc's on every other gm vehicle from 96+ with the exception of a small few with oddball pcm's. It will also gives you (4) pcm locked licenses with the option to upgrade to year/model licenses.

What are you peddling these days? Are you still a mod with your new found sponsorship?

Considering autotap wants $250 to upgrade to a model that supports CAN, I might as well get a tuner. We have 3 LSx now, the 00 TA, 04 Avalanche, and the 07 Impala SS.
I wanted to start playing with the TA this winter anyhow.
Do both EFI Live and HPTuners allow you to read/clear the codes in non-GM vehicles? My parents have a pair of Fords that I troubleshoot as well.

Forgot to mention, the Impala with 300 miles on the odometer popped the fuse for 1/4 shift solenoid already. I was a little unprepared to troubleshoot it being that I have had the car for only 4 days now. The dealer couldn't find a short.
Now knowing what the code was for, I checked the harness as well. It is tough to see how that harness would short out since most of runs along the plastic intake. Could it be a bad shift solenoid that is sticking? It was a 10 amp fuse.

From the EFILive website:
"Communications protocols: OBDI/ALDL; OBDII/VPW, OBDII/CAN; GM-LAN"
EFILive is a GM specific tool, however, with the introduction of the CAN protocal, all generic parameters should be the same across all manufactures.
Here's some more info on V2: http://www.efilive.com/overview_flash2.aspx
And here's a link to the forum: www.forum.efilive.com
