Default new CAN limitations on new GM's??

So I was talking with my local shop buddy and he was at the recent update cource on all the new systems coming out... the CAN system for GM's is going to limit most shops from doing anything but from what I understand the EFI live V2 is CAN conpatible??? is this true? If so that means shops could save thousands if not tens of thousands by simply buying EFI live or other systems (im an EFI live user no prejudus against the others sorry) to flash program or check codes on these newer vehicles... Does anyone know anything towards how limied the CAN system will be on the flahing side of tunning? will it allow us even to tune these nuw computer systems so that we can eliminate things like rear 02 sensors or anything for that matter? i think we should really look into this or maybe I havent been online when everyone went over this so if someone can shed some light on this for me that would be great. thanks

Old news dude.
CAN support is out there now. People have been flashing their LS2 CAN ECM's for months with efilive.
Take a look at www.holdencrazy.com for tunes and the tables you have access to.

CAN is just a device bus based on an architecture that is an established standard. It has beed used in one form or another in industrial controls for awhile. It's just a way to handle PCM I/O to devices other than the older discrete/analog methods.

They are never going to be able to stop the aftermarket from modifying engine computers. There is ALWYAS a way around whatever they do and as long as people still pay money companys are gunna keep finding ways around what ever thay come out with.

ABS and some security systems are BCM related not ECM, which means even though they all might talk CAN the tuning tools arnt designed to control the BCM's. I dont know of anything that will talk tot he BCM other than the Tech2

with every one going to the same protocall this could be a plus. it could bust it wide open for all makes.

That's what we thought when OBDII came out. What is amazing is how differently each make's strategy is to get a certain injector pulse width and ign timing at the right time. If you're good at GM tuning and decide to apply that to Ford, you're in for a whole new learning experiance. Maybe it's the risk of patent infringement or just the sake of being different by all the manufacturers, having worked with many different EMSs, there are so many different approaches to getting the same results.
