Default HELP: Anyone know if...

...if I throw a steering wheel position sensor code, will that kill ABS in the process? I believe it will because it's a BCM related fault, but I'm not 100%.

After I got off the dyno last year, my ABS light never went off. I thought it would after a few miles, but no such luck. When they strapped my car down, they used wheel straps up front (went through the spokes of my wheels - see pic). Any idea where to look for the source of my troubles???

I also pulled a P1637 too (Generator 2 L-terminal Circuit). I believe this is usually the cause of the little wire going to the alternator??

Any help is greatly appreciated...

Did you already check the wires/connectors on the abs sensors on the front wheel hubs? Doesn't look like the straps were looped up there, but I guess its possible.

Never heard of a steering wheel position code but a wheel speed sensor will throw a code and kill abs. Anytime the ABS light is on the abs is disabled. What is the exact code you have?

Jeff, nice car.

Pull the connectors off the front sensors and inspect for water/corrosion.

Not sure exactly on the codes. The car is at home in storage. I was just hoping to get a jump-start on a few of the issues I plan to tackle this spring. If I get a chance to pull the codes, I'll post 'em up. Thanks anyway guys.

Guess I do have the codes (see attached). I'm assuming this is what's causing my ABS light? Any clue where to look for this?

Ok, first, the ABS light should go off after the car exceeds about 5 MPH. We strap the front wheels on most, and it never interferes with the ABS sensors.
And the lights always go off in the first 100 feet off the dyno. I dont release a car til the lights off. If it dont go off, there's a problem.
Second, I looked up those codes, or tried to. Cant find the steering wheel code. Under ABS, or BCM, or ECM.
Third, the 1637 code Alt circuit is PCM controlled. You need to be looking for an open circuit. PM me if you need a wiring diagram for that.
Last, for the ABS lite, what kinda scanner are you using? I can help you with it, but I need to know what kind of scanner (I have several) and then we can go from there.

I was using EFI Live Flashscan V1. That's what the screen print is from in my previous post. I've put 50~100 miles on the car since it's been on the dyno. The light is still on. I haven't had the opportunity to get under the car yet though.

I think you'll need a dif type scan tool to help in the ABS diagnostics. Something like a tech2. A snapon scanner will work, I think. I use Vetronix mainly, so not sure if the snapon will work with ABS those years. I'm pretty sure it will. I know it did in the earlier years, in the 90s.

I also tried looking up the codes on Mitchelondemand5 and could not find anything relating to the steering wheel sensor. I also believe you'll need a different scan tool. Snap on will work. I use the old MT2500 and the Newest Genisys and couldn't find that code in the 2006 software on the Genisys. I believe you'll find it to be a wheel speed sensor.

I'd have to say you're on the right track for the P1637 with the wire on the Alt.

I think the efi scanner is spittin out some bogus info.
As far as the ABS light. If the light is on from a stand still, if its sensor related, its an open circuit. The system checks the sensors when the key is turned on. If it "sees" completed circuits, no light. Then when the car moves, if it sees speed discrepancies (typo) it'll set the light.
Do you have a red brake light with it also? When both are on at the same time its usually low on fluid. Simple fix...

Usually when the ABS Inop light does not go off after a dyno it is because when they strapped the rear end down they managed to pull on the wiring harness and unplugged it right in front of and above the rear axle on the drivers side. Look there and I'll bet you will find your problem.

That c0055 is for the rear sensor. The software gives the wrong info, and even the Snap-on scanner says unknown code. Like the previous guy said, that jumper harness was probably pulled. It is probably still connected, but push it in snugly and the light should go off.
